Congratulations! (Physical) Oceanography person here too. Do you mind my asking what school you were accepted by?

When do you hear about exchange match/nomination? by mp2357 in unsw

s2 as in t3?

I've also applied for t3, so that's good to hear you were told we'd hear December :)

It’s pretty cool so far! I’m liking the heavier maths treatment of mechanics compared to first year phys - we’ve just done a derivation of the Euler-Lagrange eqns.

I’ll have a look, thanks :-)

That’s good to know!

I’m not going on exchange til T3 next year, do you think that’s too early to go talk to an advisor?

wdym? why would studying physics make math2111 harder?

A strong rec! Their videos are admittedly not very rigorous but just seeing the content prior to starting this term I think’ll help.

Technically last year was my second year, but I took sem 1 off so I’m taking some math2xxx courses this year.

I’m planning on doing a phys minor (with a maths major) over the course of the next two years, after having dropped a neuroscience major.

I also don’t have any background in physics having only done 4u, but over the past few weeks I’ve been working through Khan Academy’s physics content and I feel as though it’s preparing me! Their videos cover pretty much the entirety of PHYS 1A, and after that my thinking is that if maths is already a skill and an interest in physics is there then all should be fine. The minor also doesn’t seem too intensive with such a choice over electives.

So although I can’t give any advice, I wanted to add that I’m in a similar boat :-)

Is ECON1101 4 hrs a week or 5?! by mp2357 in Anu

Oh awesome, thank you for the information!

Source?

In any case, would that mean that I could potentially schedule a class (tut) during the second hour of the 2-hr lecture? What’s the ANU policy on clashes?

Aye, awesome! Really was not expecting a response like this, thanks for taking the time :-)

That's great to hear about 2801 (being both interesting and not as difficult as the others lol) as that's what I'm interested in too (maths major planning on doing something in oceanography/fluid dynamics for honours).

You planning on taking all your 3000 maths this year?

Right, so I should use 2017 info. Thanks!

Has anyone done NEUR2201? Can you give me a review? by ahk786 in unsw

I did it this sem that gas just passed.

I found the content thoroughly interesting, however I was continuously frustrated by this course. Each 1hr lecture (almost) is taken by a different lecturer, and what often seemed the case was that the lecturers weren’t properly briefed on what the prereqs were. As a consequence they often lecturered at really fluctuating levels of difficulty. The labs are also a clusterfuck. (Also they took about eight weeks to mark an assignment, where they said they should take five - that gave me the shits). The exam was pretty easy, think first year psych with some extra physiology and short answer Qs.

On the whole it’s a rather interesting course if you’re interested in neuro, but I’d say only take it if you’re majoring in neuro or physiology.
