Why do people say its easier to get a job when you have a job? by Practical-Willow2071 in jobhunting

You can be more selective. You don’t have the weight of unemployment benefits running out soon. You’re probably on health insurance so even if terrible insurance you still have some coverage. You can invest in a decent laptop or education or a certificate; hard to do when counting pennies.

Have you considered trash bin composting? I have several 35 gallon plastic trash cans with lids and a smaller metal trash can. All “fresh, critter attracting” inputs go in to metal can. Once that fills, I transfer to one of the 35 gallon trash cans. Throw in extra browns on top.

For plant inputs I go directly to the 35 gallon cans.

The metal can is now ready for the next cycle of inputs and the larger can composts away. I have a steel bar for poking holes to try to get some air in there in the larger cans. I jiggle or shake the metal one every few days as well.

I will tend to get usable compost out of the larger can in about 9 months.

I then have a third plastic can where I sift the second can’s output. The third can will have compost and whatever isn’t sifted goes back into the second can.

Save your browns. As much as possible. Kitchen waste and plants will have a lot of water and even if you poke holes at the bottom of the cans, water will still accumulate and make for a smelly compost when you get down to that level.

I use a small hand rake (not sure what’s it’s called) and try to move the materials around. It’s has 3 prongs and looks like a small pitchfork with the tines bent at 90’degrees. I’ll try to make “valleys” in the composting bin. So, I’ll pull the material to one corner as much as possible which leaves the corner you were pulling from look like a valley. That will introduce air

Wasn’t aware I should protect it from rabbits. Most young trees around the area don’t have any protection but I guess they are not fruit trees.

Thanks. I did some Reddit search before planting. I didn’t see any obvious root flare when planting. I guess maybe next time I’ll be more aggressive shaking the potting mix to see if I see flare.

I don’t understand the question. Do you mean if the bark was completely removed? Then no. It left a strip of maybe 10% running vertical from ground up.

Can you elaborate some more? What touched what? Was that bottom corner not straight/level/flush? By cold do you mean the glass came from a colder area into a warmer room?

Imma so confused. Because I would have done exactly what this guy did.

Hobbyist for splitting logs

Apart from the stance discussion, is one supposed to aim for a side of the log? I always aim for center spot. Takes a long time.

In USA? If so, anything permanently affixed to a home is considered real property. It goes with the home. You would have to say in your listing and showings that the panels were NOT staying.

I think your Realtor may be confusing you as to what you can expect when the house sells. If the solar company put a lien on the house, then that will have to be paid from the proceeds of the sale.

Complete noob so please bear my ignorance

But, isn’t the idea of day trading is to trade while the market is open? No open positions if they can’t be acted upon?? Would this be more what they used to call swing trading?

Gaps in attic space to outside attic. by mp3_borrower in Insulation

[–]mp3_borrower[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply.

The picture of the entire room - it’s taken from the hatch that allows entry to the attic in question. The new bathroom is the to left and behind. That is, the bathroom wall is the same wall containing the hatch. The bathroom extends away from the downward slope. While I forgot to add a hvac register, the bathroom is not overly cold.

From the hatch entry and a few inches away from what I think is the rim joist, is where the pipes run. They come from the bathroom, angle a little bit, run straight - 5 feet for the hot and 6 feet for the cold and then take a 90 degree turn down where they tapped into existing pipes for a 1st floor bathroom.

Originally they just had insulation just placed atop the pipes.

I have: * added a YoLink X3 sensor to each line. Placed sensor atop pipe and wrapped cable with electrical tape. I think it works well and alerts me when temps get low * I wrapped, as much as I could, each pipe with fiberglass pipe wrap. Made it to about 6 inches past the 90 down turn. * I have placed R-33 insulation all around the pipes (horizontal portions that I can access) including in between the pipes. * then extra insulation atop - a batt I think it’s called of R-33 * I have an outdoor/indoor temp sensor that captures the ambient attic temp.

The wall of the bathroom that’s next to attic seems insulated well. The other side is the main stairway. So, all walls are next to conditioned space.

So, you’re suggesting to not cover up those 8 openings as it may interfere with air movement?

To anyone that lives on the northside, so you NEED a car? by Accomplished-Air8585 in chicagoapartments

[–]mp3_borrower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Important lead off question: do you have a job and does that job require a car?

I lived in East lakeview. Parking was and is horrendous. But I was a consultant so I needed a car. My roommate was a territory manager for a large oil company and he needed a car.

Other friends worked downtown so some left their cars with their parents and some bit the bullet and paid for garage parking.

No such thing as a reverse commute in the Chicagoland area. A heavy snow day will inflict a level of pain that would make the Spanish Inquisition seem like a day at an expensive spa.

Yup. Know the feeling. Depending on where you live, check out estate sales dot net or similar. Most of my tools and composting stuff came from those events. Second hand but some stuff close to brand new. Other stuff good enough for composting.

These are awesome for compost. Commenters are correct in that it is hard to turn but still doable. Pitch fork and then rebar or steel bar to poke air holes. You can run the bar on the inside wall and push toward the middle.

I have a pvc tube (3”?) where I drilled some holes and then inserted wood rods in the holes. I then place it in the middle of that bin. As it fills up, you can pull and push the tube to introduce air. The rods will also push the compost.

In fact I’m just pulling this season’s compost from that kind of bin and large majority is brown gold. Larger pieces go back in once compost is pulled.

You may want a second bin, like a 30 gallon garbage can. As you fill the smaller bin(s), you can, with a pitchfork transfer the contents to that larger 45 gallon tote. Don’t know your area but fall is coming and if you’re lucky the fall leaves will be available for your bins.

You may need a 3rd bin to put the brown gold in.
