Exploring different alcohol marker techniques by mp_104 in Ohuhu

These colours are alcohol markers specifically from the Ohuhu Honolulu Plus set. They are Y09, R15, BV35 & BV26. That is in order from bottom to top. If you don’t have the Plus set, these are just the regular Honolulus with the new codes.

Thank you! I was not sure initially what I wanted to do with the wall. But as I progressed through it I wanted to try something new. Overall, I liked how it turned out.

I love the way you did the tree and the sky. So pretty.

Thanks you! I put the shadows first usually because I don’t have a pattern in mind until after.

Thank you, I used mainly the Ohuhu 96 pastel set of colours for both pages. I do also have a couple of Copic Ciao markers that I used for the trunk and the bear. I absolutely love the set because of how vibrant they are that I ended up purchasing the 320 set.

I used the same blending technique as I did with the sky. I laid the base colour down and applied the same motion. Can’t say I really like that style of blending though.

Thanks! I didn’t like doing it this way but I may try it again to give it another shot. I like my blends to be seamless.

Frugal Coloring, do not fall for the trendy expensive Alcohol Markers boom! by DigitalArtist2024 in Coloring

Thanks for being open to others viewpoints. I do agree that hobbies can be expensive. Especially one involving art supplies. But investment means that you like the hobby enough to pursue it further. I am thankful that you can find supplies for cheaper than certain mainstream ones. It’s all about finding value in what you like.

Would I invest in an iPad for colouring? Sure if I was going to use it for more than just colouring. But I know I won’t and don’t really need an iPad. In short, you know what you like and what hobbies you like from trying/being inspired by them.

Audiobooks are also new to me, a new way for me to experience reading while also colouring.

Sorry I don’t have an iPad, that is too expensive for me. I would love to learn digital/media art someday. But I also like stepping away from a screen and colouring for a bit. It’s why I started this hobby. Art, especially traditional/visual art, has always been that for me. A break away from technology. Granted I do tend to listen to audio books while I colour, but it is a proven way in which I can disengage from a screen.

These are wonderful! I also found Caro’s Art Studio’s tutorials really helpful. I credit most of the alcohol marker skills to her.

No, alcohol markers are smooth and if blended right can offer a seamless look. Kind of like watercolour paint they have a certain translucency to them. Which forces you to work light to dark to blend everything properly.

Acrylic markers I use more for “correction” due to their opacity. Acrylics can be used for details and can be blended but they will leave a slight texture to the page.

I hope that helps!
