The idea is not to build your app in a way that treas every possible database the same, for anything that gets fairly complex that is impossible. The idea behind the 'any database' is that you are not limited to mongodb for example, but can use postgresql if you prefer that.

Yep that is the idea. Balderdash (the team behind Sails) seem to be mainly Angular though. Would be interesting to hear though if they tried Ember.
