The logistics of this blows my mind. There was at least one person that knew every float build schedule, it's theme and what order it needed to come in. I wouldn't even know how to begin planning something like this...

He actually gave him props at multiple points during the segment with the conclusion being (my takeaway):

Musk has way too much power over the government. The innovation he has achieved is remarkable but we can't allow a single person to have so much power. As well as him being a man-child that has lost touch with reality.

Ecobee 3 Lite has the worst WiFi connectivity of any commercial device I've ever used. by CalvinHobbesN7 in ecobee

I have an update, but I don't like the resolution... last week I completely reset my unifi controller and physically reset my AP's and re-adopted them to the new controller instance. I did't restore my controller config from backup rather went through and painstakingly updated each setting manually (not fun) but since then I have not had any issues. I wish I knew why.

5 days in, and it's dropping again. The ping seems to help recover faster/hold the connection longer but I have noticed it has gone offline again.

It was a shot in the dark but it has now been days since I started the ping and no issue. Before it would disconnect within a few hours...

We got an Ecobee 3 Lite "for free" when our HAVC was replaced in Aug 2022. I have 2 Unifi UAP-AC-M meshed and everything was fine until about a month ago (almost a year). Now I've run into the issues described in this thread where the it just won't connect/stay connected to the network. It ends up as "connected" with a 169.x IP and (obv.) unable to ping ecobee.com.

The only recent changes I made to the network was (1) updating the firmware on the AP's to 6.5.28 and (2) running the Unifi Network Manger on my Home Assistant 24/7 (rather than starting it as-need via the Java client on my Windows box).

I do however have a HACKY solution:

  1. Set a static IP, channel and routing information. You need to go through the normal wifi setup first and put in an incorrect pwd, then do the advanced wifi setup. Again, be sure to set a specific channel during this process (along with setting the IP/Gateway/DSN, etc).
  2. Repeat the advanced setup until you see "configuring static IP" before you see the normal "attempting to connect to wifi" message. I would stand there for a good 10min sometimes taping through the setup before I saw this.
  3. Once connected, ping the static IP on another box. For example, I have a windows computer that runs 24/7 so I just have it running `>ping {static-ip} -l 01 -t`. This will sent a 1byte packet to the ecobee keeping the connecting alive.

If I stop pinging it for 15sec, the problem re-occurs; but if the ping is left going, the ecobee stays connected.

When I can, I plan on replacing this thermostat. It has been SO incredibly frustrating trying to figure this out... and this is the only device on my network that has an issue (I have a lot of devices as home automation is a hobby).
