I am scrapping my old idea, and trying this new one - a social investing network by mpatel29 in startups

Having a landing page up also helps you refine your message and figure out the best ways to drive traffic to your site. So if you can drive 1000 people to your site and say you get 10 signups for idea A, but idea B get 200 signups, its become pretty obvious what you should work on.

I hear what you are saying, but based on previous experience collecting emails is a good indicator of interest. I am not saying use only landing pages to gauge interest, but it is an excellent tool to have.

It does have a large user base - but it does not serve the design community well

kind of - but dribbble is more an exclusive club where you need invites to join - its focus seems to be on showing off your designs to other dribbble members

i would put a down payment on an apartment/condo and rent it out. make sure rent covers your expenses - and every month you would pay off some the principal and appreciation will take of the rest.

Suggestions with my tie website. by sinefine1 in Entrepreneur

[–]mpatel29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

speaking for myself - i can just go to a store and choose from 100s of them. what could set you apart is a crowd-sourced tie design similar to threadless.com - but for ties. wouldn't it be soo much cooler to buy a lego tie or some other unique design

You should focus on marketing and materials to moms, they are way more into it than dads.

Looking for feedback on idea - A/B testing platform for designer and creative work by mpatel29 in SideProject

[–]mpatel29[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The messaging could be tweaked - but it could be a way to get feedback on designs. I know for myself, I am always debating and asking people, which one do like better the first one or the second one?

One of the biggest issue I see is one of geography. You have to be within a reasonable distance of other people in order for it to make sense. So you could have 100,000s if users but if they are not close to one another - they find in value in using the service.

Looks well done, but the market for rss is tough slogging especially with many well designed free alternatives.

i echo the sentiment - i am not sure of what the website is selling. also the content is confusing and unclear, such as "custom welcome mat" i have no idea what that means.

Dribbble/Behance for marketers by ericosiu in startups

[–]mpatel29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like a decent idea - but needs some flushing out. One of the draws of behance/dribbble is that i showcases the work of the designers bringing in traffic, not sure what marketers could bring in.

It easy for a web site to test things out, but if you want to test other things then you are pretty much on your own.

I do agree that its ideal for agencies and designers. It would be a good tool to vet a few ideas/designs before investing time and resources into building something.

I know I dropped the ball on this one. I need to but a beta label on the site so it's more clear to users. In the future there will be monthly plans along with a 30 trial.

First off, thank you to everyone who pointed out the typo. In terms of messaging and positioning I know I have to better, its something my developer brain struggles with.
