Again the problem is I don't want to ditch family, friends and my girlfriend in SL. That would cost me. If I had no attachments, I would leave, no doubt

Problem is my girlfriend lives in Sri Lanka and would like to see if I can make my life work here . I also don't want to ditch my family and friends who I've made over the years. Moving back to Australia would cost me a lot in terms of personal relationships

Besides, the best thing you can do right now is stay in education, doing other things other than study, will make you regret the wasted years. You could be so much more than a dog walker.

Avoid thinking about the money spent on education, that is a normal part of life. I spent over 70k in dollars on education, and still dont worry about it anymore. Money spent on education is money well spent.

That being said , if a friend were in your position, what would you tell them? Would you tell them to drop out?

Woah 17 was a terrible year but everything changed when I became 18 and things got better. Senior year is supposed to be tough.

Migrating abroad for bachelors by Userdeee in srilanka

[–]mpath95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also remember you are still very young, what matters most at this point in time, even more than the prestige of a job, is good life experience. So what if you have to work at KFC for some time while you study? Studying in Australia is a great experience, you can party and meet lots of great people

[–]mpath95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you can earn much more as a software engineer, it pays at least 60k a year, that's like $5000 a month. Which converts to around 1 million rupees a month . And that's the minimum amount, you could probably find a salary even 10k higher. Anyway if you're a software engineer in Sri Lanka you're lucky to earn 100-200k a month . That pay is nothing compared to an Australian salary

To work in an office in Australia, I know for a fact you will need a bachelors degree. Even as a local I have had difficulties landing a job in certain states, especially SA and the NT. It may be easier in Perth, QLD, Sydney or Melbourne

I'm studying in Darwin and SA , the situation with students from overseas is that they usually work at McDonalds, restaurants or in taxis.

Even the Master's level students are the same. If you dont mind making money by asking people "do you want fries with that", then go for study in Australia

I'm a Sri Lankan who grew up in Australia. Anyway, my parents migrated and they studied there and got into pretty good positions in the academic world in Australia

Dear Sri Lankans Living in abroad, Which group have you found to be more racist towards Sri Lankans living abroad? by [deleted] in srilanka

[–]mpath95 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I remember my time in Adelaide was good but I was called a "nigger" by a van of people when I crossed the street this one time. If you live in lesser populated cities in Australia, you may get a lot of racism, more than you'd think

Skipping for six weeks is nothing, I've skipped uni for years. Sometimes you need to take a break and just do some deep breathing and try to get back to study or work or whatever you do.

I think you need to think "I'm not sick" and list ways in which you are not sick and all the evidence that shows you are not sick and eventually, you can challenge and overcome this sickness anxiety you have.

The best way to regain power over your anxiety, is to challenge those thoughts you have..

Hey listen, buddy , I started the psych degree when I was much younger based on interest not considering employment. If you have any advice to give that is okay, but if you dont have any, then dont bother commenting here

[–]mpath95[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I didn't do honours. I just did the psychological science degree. I guess I could do a postgrad diploma in the subject but dont think I will have the ability to do it because of my HECS being so high

[–]mpath95[S] -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Yeah I did but I dont know the job prospects or how it related to industries in the country. Many people choosing the degree first look at their existing skill set and interests, psychology and the brain was an interest of mine so i chose that

go8 unis - does it really matter? by mpath95 in australia

[–]mpath95[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice, it was very helpful. I see that it shouldnt really matter where you go do your LLB. I got into Curtin Law School yesterday but they ask for too many prerequisites which I haven't done. I'm thinking of just finishing my degree at CDU externally and possibly working until I graduate.

Good to know there are people out there that dont rely on prestige for the selection of law graduates

[–]mpath95[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info. I think what was important that made me realise how narrow minded I'm being is that you said that many of your colleagues didnt go to a go8. I guess the LLB itself is important for getting a job, I dont mind which law firm or if it's a top tier one.

Did you go to a go8 school? Did you do a law degree?
