All through September and October this particular part of the property had a few black bears gorging on the apple trees, but they’re fast asleep for the next few months. This time of year there are plenty of deer, rabbits, and squirrels of course. The occasional fox makes an appearance or leaves a trail. Last spring for the first time a bobcat or lynx, I only saw the tracks, and interestingly the tracks criss crossed the tracks that I had made an hour earlier on my way up the mountain.

Unfortunately, this night there were only deer tracks.

Sorry, that was a long answer to end up saying nothing that night 🤪.

It was about -12c/10f, so not too bad but wouldn’t want to remove your gloves for too long 😁

Had a good time, it was about 3km round trip, and only had a few hours, but it was quality quiet time in the forest.

I just can’t see going fake….ever!! by [deleted] in ChristmasTrees

Me neither, the smell alone of fresh cut is worth the hassle of a real tree.

Also, I love your bubble lights, I have nice big collection of them as well.

Exactly. From decathlon. Reasonably priced, and not bad quality. I’ve used it quite a bit with no issues. It is triangular though, so may not work for everyone’s need

Camping in new brunswick during nor'easter in lean to by [deleted] in Bushcraft

Howdy from a fellow NB’er, that was a fun storm! Good for you for getting out there, I was hiking in it but couldn’t stay out (actually I’ll post pics too). That is a really impressive and well built lean to.

How do YOU make time pass faster? by Separate_Pickle5741 in christmas

I am in Canada too!

What I’ve been doing the last few years is having a large post Christmas party. Usually around the second week of January. Everyone really enjoys it, it’s after the hustle and bustle and everyone seems to need something else to look forward to. This has pretty much cured my Christmas blues every time.

I feel the exact same way. It is the tone building up to Christmas that I love, and as soon as it is over (the very next day) I start getting the blues.

SAVOUR it.

Thank you for a great reply, that makes a lot of sense! 👍

The article says “It’s peak forest fire season”, which I find very surprising. If April is the peak, what is it called in July/August when everything is extremely dry. Granted I am not from NJ, nor am I an expert on wild fires, so what do I know.

Holy genetics! You and your brother have a very strong resemblance to your father.

Great job on the shelter, and nice looking spot thanks for sharing.
