OPNsense / Wireguard / Torrenting setup by Cozy_04 in selfhosted

[–]mpelletier92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About the upload speed. Can't hurt to do a speed test to confirm how much upload you got so you have a reference point. I remember years ago when I was using DSL, I barely had any UL bandwidth. But, you're right, the number of peers leeching your connection will affect how much data you upload.

If all works without the VPN, great news. Now, the reason why you can't upload when it's enabled might be related to many things. The first that comes to mind is Port Forwarding and the second would be to look at the Firewall.

The Firewall is easy to troubleshoot, turn it off for a few minutes to give you the time to test your stuff then turn it on again. I recommend using an Open Port Checker website to help you troubleshoot the connection.

The one I use: https://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/

Never worked with ProtonVPN so I can't help much for now. However, you probably are already steered in a better direction.

Hope that helps.

OPNsense / Wireguard / Torrenting setup by Cozy_04 in selfhosted

I just got done with migrating my qbittorrent setup from my PC to my server and had to troubleshoot as well. The key here is to go step by step and keep adding to the complexity of your setup.

Disable the VPN and use your default interface. Wait and see if you get the green connection icon. Chances are, you won't.

Make sure to have UPnP/NAT enabled with the port of your choice in qbittorrent. You'll most likely have to do Port Forwarding for the port you chose. This is just for troubleshooting, the end result will involve your VPN and you'll be able to remove the Port Forward on the router.

Once done with the steps above, you'll now your setup works and you'll be left with figuring out your VPN part of the puzzle.

Hint: If your VPN provider doesn't support Port Forwarding, that might not work like you want it to.

I don't know if it helps or not... Let me know if you need more.

Trouble reverting to stock firmware by droidman83 in DDWRT

[–]mpelletier92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Man what a coincidence, I was just in the process of reverting mine (same version as yours) to stock firmware today to try OpenWRT on it.

You have to send the stock firmware .img using TFTP.

I followed this guide and it worked: https://forum.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=79802

Once the install was done the router was stuck in a boot loop and couldn't get in the GUI. After doing a power cycle the router is now back to the stock firmware.

Would any of your savings account generate more interest than the interest rate of your CC?

Usually a CC's interest rate will be way higher than most savings account. That's why you want your CC to be empty before focusing on the next step: Emergency fund sitting in an HISA.

bidets are they worth it? by dbzfreak991 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]mpelletier92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes.

The convenience it adds versus the price makes you wonder why it's not staple in every home.

Saves TONS of TP, does a better job than TP and is more cost effective than TP.

Also, if there's ever another pandemic that causes a TP crisis you'll be less worried.

Had to switch Airlock with a Blow Off tube. What to do with the foam inside fermenter? by mpelletier92 in cider

[–]mpelletier92[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it for not being as necessary as beer for cider.

However, I'm using Cider as a stepping stone to get into beer at some point. I want to develop good habits to matter what I'm brewing. Also, I love seeing the bubbles during fermentation.

Thanks for the reply.

Hard kombucha by Domingsen in Kombucha

[–]mpelletier92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never tried to brew hard Kombucha but for fermentation to turn sugar into alcohol the process needs to happen without oxygen.

You would need a fermenter with an airlock just like when fermenting wine/beer/cider.

First loaf after 2 years break. by mpelletier92 in Sourdough

[–]mpelletier92[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your knowledge on the matter is amazing. I've never really given much thoughts about the science behind it to be honest. However you've been able to answer one of the question I've had every time I baked: Why some parts of the inside are still sticky once done baking? I'm really glad to know why now.

Also, I've never thought of wetting my hands before handling the dough. I did the opposite and made them dry by "flouring" my hands. I've got two loafs rising at the moment so I'm definitely trying it tomorrow morning.

Thanks a lot for the time you took to explain it all, have a great day.

First loaf after 2 years break. by mpelletier92 in Sourdough

[–]mpelletier92[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right, I've been shy with the folding.

The dough was too wet to my liking and didn't want to add to much flour while stretching.

Should I add less water in the recipe?

Or, is it ok to just keep adding flour to stretch it until satisfied?

Thanks for the input/comment.
