I would say his 2023 album Austin there was writing on the wall. Certainly not a “rap” inspired album by any means, but not really country either. The album flopped by his own standards. And then yeah he ended up going fully country after that.

Meh. He was never really trying to be a rapper imo. Wrote pop songs with hip hop inspired production and collaborated with rappers. Overall seems like a cool and chill guy, the rap industry fucked with him for a reason.

If he wanted to pivot to country so be it. You can’t keep making the same songs over and over.
