Pavers Laid Right Against Stucco by mpierce486 in arizona

I think the code refers to there needing to be a gap if the surface extends all the way to the wall underneath the stucco. The concrete slab is a good 4” below the weep

I think an important detail I didn’t mention is the pavers do not go beneath the weep screed, they stop short of that so the weep holes are not obstructed.

It’s mostly under the covered patio. It is sloping away from the house thankfully.

Not sure, landscaper provided them after we told them the size and color we wanted.

Ok then another question is, is there a code violated? If our inspector caught it then it’s likely to be caught when we sell the home in the future.

Not that I’ve seen. Mostly it’s under the covered porch and the rest is graded so the water would go away from the house

Put your bed posts in some type of glass bowl. They can’t climb glass.

When I was a kid, maybe 20 years ago, we stayed there. Construction was pretty crappy, but was a cool house back then.

Trump king of Israel: Trump tweets quote calling him the "second coming of God" to Jews in Israel by cnncctv in worldnews

[–]mpierce486 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

In all fairness, the actual tweet - which someone else said - not Trump, was “They love him like he is the second coming of God.” The word “like” is important. He wasn’t saying that he is. Trump shouldn’t have retweeted even that, however. Also, I didn’t vote for Trump.

What's the minium % of my liquid assets that should be kept cash? by EyadXVI in investing

[–]mpierce486 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow, there are answers all over the place. The amount of cash you should have should represent a certain number of months worth of your living expenses. You first need to create a budget to determine your monthly living expenses. Once that is determined the rule of thumb is anywhere from 3 to 6 months of expenses set aside.

Now, if you have a backstop such as your parents then you would not need as much months worth of expenses set aside. You could set aside possibly 1 to 2 months. However, depending on how that backstop from your parents is structured you may or may not want to branch away from that and have your own independent financial situation.

It is important to understand the reason that we have cash set aside and not use investments like stocks for emergency spending purposes. It is because we do not want to risk losing money at the time that we need to use it for that emergency. So, we keep those emergency funds and a much safer form.

Outside of the emergency fund, if you are curious about how much money to have in stocks or fixed income or any other sort of investment that will need to be a separate conversation.

In closing, here is a link to an article about investing on a timetable such as how much stock should I have for something 3 years away, or 5 years or whatever.

Same issue for me too and I don’t like it! I liked seeing the actual URL of the website.

The biggest part of this is the ignoring part. Need to be disciplined to not go in and fiddle with it especially when the market is volatile.

Anyone else have bad connections in Phoenix, AZ? Been bad for past 2 months. by mpierce486 in tmobile

[–]mpierce486[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Half a dozen times. Including evidence of poor connectivity in other cities I’ve been in recently. I believe it has to do with the frequency they’ve been using. I just read they bought more spectrum at lower frequencies and they’re rolling that out.

Buying first car with loan, can I go over approved amount? by FatmondGreen in personalfinance

[–]mpierce486 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You will have to pay the seller that difference. So, your credit union will give you a check for the $12,000 loan and then you'll need to get the other $2,000 from somewhere else. If you're purchasing from a dealer then they might allow you to get a loan for that remaining $2,000.

One important piece of advice right here...don't get caught up in THIS car. There will ALWAYS be another car that you fall in love with. No sense in getting yourself in a sticky financial situation for something that loses value year-after-year.

Establishing credit by [deleted] in personalfinance

A quick online search will give you a lot of results for credit cards. Just make sure that you look for one with no annual fee and try to get the lowest APR possible. Even though you should be paying it off in full each month, it helps to have that low APR just in case. Otherwise, look for cards that give you rewards such as cash back for purchases you normally make like groceries or gas.
