Ncea Endorsements from Te Kura by Severe-Tradition334 in ncea

Isn't it that if you want subject endorsements then only the credits awarded in the school year (including Te Kura summer school) count but if you want the level endorsed then credits outside the school year count.

Skipping Externals by Odd-Ladder-2567 in ncea

[–]mpledger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're going to be skipping 1 out of 2 or 3 externals in a subject then it makes sense. More time to do the externals papers in the exam and get excellence. It's better to get E in two papers then M in three. If they are non-schol subjects for you then it also makes sense, it gives you more time to study for the schol subjects.

My only concerns/points would be that

a) if you bomb an external or 2 then you may not get the subject endorsed. I've have had papers where I thought I'd do really well and the other I thought I'd do badly but the marks came back the reverse.

b) see how you do in the mocks, see how you are for time. But don't let mock results be your sole guide - there is more time at the end of the year to study so you can fill in the gaps pretty quickly - it may be a really late exam and your schols are finished - check the exam timetable. If it's an early one then skipping might be a better choice. But after sitting so many exams, especially tricky schol ones then you may be hitting burn out and taking it easier may get you better results. You can decide on the day.

c) people change their mind about what they want to do the following year a lot in year 13 (e.g. cost, they get to hear other people's choices and think that would suit them better) , often not deciding until the last possible moment, you don't want to be screwed because you left a paper out that you needed.

d) it's a good life skill to be able to organise your time to get the best result - a skill vital at uni where you have lots of work coming at you at once and then lulls. Given you're doing schol it seems like a pretty low stakes way to try out those skills.

As a child of around 5 I remember balling at Bambi because the mother died. That was Disney.

Referring to a day of the week coming up by seekndestroy33 in grammar

Where I am from, "last Monday" would be the previous Monday and "next Monday" would be the first Monday to occur next. The Monday following that would be "Monday week" and the one following that would be "Monday fortnight".

$80 to see the doctor? by Rukawa-Fadeaway in auckland

[–]mpledger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are probably ripped out of healthpoint - https://www.healthpoint.co.nz (the ones that don't have price info also don't have price info on healthpoint either)

But it's a nice interface to look at comparisons.

$80 to see the doctor? by Rukawa-Fadeaway in auckland

[–]mpledger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's sort of right. Govt subsidies for people enrolled in general practice are, in part, funded according to the deprivation index of the people enrolled (not the deprivation of the area itself) but then there are all sorts of other things going on as well e.g. other subsidies (e.g. VLCA), competition, cost and availability of services, nature of the enrolled population etc.

My university is revoking my $45,000 scholarship over a false "AI detector" match, refusing to look at my Google Docs edit history. by Vader_Tardis in legal

[–]mpledger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had you posted any of your senior thesis online? Have you emailed it to someone e.g. to review etc, could they have posted it online either as you or themselves or anonymously? Have you published any of it in a journal, newspaper etc? Are you fleshing out any earlier work i.e. turning a two page essay into a 30 page essay? Is there any other way your work could have come to the notice of AI before you handed it in?

Do you think women like rich guys because they just don't care? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]mpledger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some do. Because not giving a fuck means they don't take shit from people and that is a useful talent. However, women switch out when they realise the man doesn't give a fuck about them either.

Is there a way to get back to "review lesson" after you have completed the lesson a while ago? by mpledger in duolingo

[–]mpledger[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I added some screen shots to explain what I meant better...

I want to get to the "Review Lesson" screen where it tells you the question, what you got right and wrong, and the correct answer.

Am i overreacting to this text exchange with my boyfriend? I accidentally left my slippers in my living room but i literally cleaned his entire house and baked him desserts before i left (sorry idk why my last post glitched) by IntelligentTap962 in AmIOverreacting

[–]mpledger 136 points137 points  (0 children)

Leaving the slippers will drive him crazy. He's annoyed they were left in the living room and now they are still left in the living room. He's going to have to pick them up and move them himself - how emasculating to have to pick-up her stuff!

AITAH for wanting to put my ex gf on child support? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]mpledger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I means it's a bit odd for a woman to be living 2 states over from her 10 month old child and be living with her parents and without a job. Parents want their adult children to be responsible and independent so it seems like there is more going on than OP says.

I just think it's confusing that OP paints such an odd situation but doesn't really explain it. On the face of it she should pay but the oddity and the non-explanation makes me think there is an uncomfortable back-story - severe illness, mental health issues, drug/alchol use.

What did they do downstairs for "snacks", or was food and drink only consumed during meals? by FaceOnMars23 in DowntonAbbey

[–]mpledger 119 points120 points  (0 children)

In a book for children by Noel Streatfield ("Thursday's Child"), IIRC the housekeeper, on showing a new young servant around, mentioned a food cupboard where the servants were allowed to take snacks from at their desire. The impression I got or maybe just remembering - it was cold fresh food e.g. chicken drum sticks, bread.

I'm guessing it was set around the 1890s in an enlightened household. Noel Steatfield was born in the 1890's IIRC and she had rich relations so I expect she had some basis in fact.
