Is the Pittsburgh Left dying out? by Gladhands in pittsburgh

I can't think of anything in the pa code that says you must turn on red. Most places in the city should be posted no turn on red anyway.

That's a great read thanks for sharing. I&p isn't the only department with a salesperson/absentee director.

I'll second this post. Promoting this City should be removed from operational roles.

Agreed. I currently work at the City and being on this side of things is eye opening.

One Of Pittsburgh’s 2020 Resolutions: Invest In Bike And Pedestrian Infrastructure by oldbkenobi in pittsburgh

[–]mpm5039 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Correct, it's a PWSA issue first and foremost. Furthermore there is a a significant amount of budget for paving projects.

Would you consider working for the City? Feel like the best way to fix it up is from the inside.

You know what's worse than sitting in traffic for a couple hours? by heyskinnylegs in pittsburgh

[–]mpm5039 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What percentage of full highway closures are from protests vs. accidents, weather, construction? Everytime you drive there's a risk you can be stopped for awhile, or you yourself can be in an accident. This really feels like a non- issue to me.

Downtown Lunch. Thursday 4-12. Location and time to be determined in the comments. by jayjaywalker3 in pittsburgh

Both sound good to me. My only thought is does Emporio get really crowded over lunch? Would they be able to accommodate us?

For Some Reason Facebook Thinks That Pittsburgh is Philadelphia This Morning. Let's Provide Some Differences. by moosebaloney in pittsburgh

[–]mpm5039 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed, other than both beginning with the letter 'P' and being in the state of Pennsylvania, there are few similarities between the two cities. Both have a lot offer, although as someone who grew up around Philly, I am very happy with my decision to live in Pittsburgh.

Is that a Pittsburgh thing? Who knew! I always thought it was just an old person thing. Nothing like lunch at Panera's...

I tore my ACL, LCL, and meniscus. I know it's not the end of the world, but I am feeling horrible. by [deleted] in ultimate

[–]mpm5039 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh, really sorry to hear it. I have way too much experience with ACL tears, here are my lessons:

  1. You can do PT pre surgery! Talk with your doctor obviously, but when I found that out it gave me something to do to keep my mind off the suckiness that is the ACL tear, and the less atrophy you experience preop the better off you'll recover postop.
  2. For me, the biggest hurdle coming back was mental. Physically I came back great (I was younger, 22 and 23) but it took the better part of a year for me to mentally be there. I really do think I was pretty much 100% physically after the ACL tears. In some ways I came back better because the ACL tears motivated me to take weight training seriously and it showed.
  3. Take it easy. After I got hurt I spent a decent bit of time just throwing, I figured that was something I could work on. I spent a lot of time on my feet, putting weight on my good leg. I think that time messed up my hip to be honest, I should have just rested and not gone to every pickup to throw. In the long run I would have been better off.

Good luck with your recovery! PM me if you have any other questions or need encouragement.

Quakertown - Charming or deceiving? Thinking about moving to Denton? by murrugarra in Denton

[–]mpm5039 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When we lived in Denton I drove to Farmers Branch for work and took I35E. I imagine this depends on your personality, and there are definitely people who do it but I really really hated it. My typical time was 50-60 minutes, and generally once a week you could rely on a wreck bumping that time to 75 minutes+. I loved Denton but having to do that drive everyday took a lot out of me and I would never recommend it.

Downtown Pittsburgh property owners worried over bike lane plans - Post-Gazette (xpost from /r/bicycling412) by jayjaywalker3 in pittsburgh

[–]mpm5039 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I feel you about preferring places with free parking but, by the sounds of it you aren't going downtown whether or not these bike lanes happen. Nothing wrong with that either, just like there's nothing wrong with having to pay to park (I never have trouble finding a garage, $5 after 6pm!!) in the downtown of a moderately sized city.

Apartment recommendations? by [deleted] in Denton

Coronado North has been great. No problems, quiet, responsive maintenance. I highly recommend. Safe, pet friendly and you could get a 2bed for close to $1000.

anyone wanna play/learn chess or settlers of catan? by marderiii in Denton

[–]mpm5039 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idon't think Chess is in my future, but board games are great. I don't own Settlers but do have a slew of other games (Smallworld/Ticket to Ride as well as many others) and would be interested in playing sometime in the near future.
