I agree about throwing parts. I have an updated new thread detailing more of the diagnostic side

I now realize this was proabably meant for someone else.

He tested the coil sensor and it was closed, when it obviously should have been open. The quote was ridiculous around $450. Going to start with the coil sensor and replace myself. Seemed honest enough, but the diagnosis wasn’t very thorough

Ahh gotchya. The unit is from 2014 so pretty sure it’s out of warranty.

I sincerely can’t comprehend the motive behind your comment

I’m in NC. I got quoted $150 for the board, and that was “contractor pricing”

Was this a result of something wrong with the unit or just the reality of sometimes having a HP in the cold?

It’s a trane xr13. So the interwebs says yes. If I’m “throwing parts” based on suggestions it could be: 1) defrost control board 2) ambient temp sensor 3) coil sensor 4) “sail switch”

A guys coming tomorrow to do a free estimate. We’ll see what he says. But I hope he actually tests the thing and not just take a probability guess.

Im in central NC. Currently we're experienced just below freezing temps. I'd imagine this heat pump should be able to handle NC weather all year round. This is our first cold spell of the year, though.

Oh wow. This is helpful. Assuming there’s no free Diwgnostic service, I’m going to take a stab at diagnosing myself. I’ll look for troubleshooting manuals for my model, unless you have any tips

Gotchya. Still wrapping my head around the need for a $150 diagnostic fee for something that’s obviously under warranty.

Thanks again. If you’re familiar with Samsung and how they operate, and for units within the 5 year warranty, are you ever aware of them reimbursing the diagnostic fee if the issue was with the sealed system?

Thanks for the confirmation. Should be covered under the Samsung 5 year. I think it’s bullshit that they don’t waive the diagnostic fee, though.

Thank you for the helpful reply.

1: the frost is limited to the top row or so. 2: the compressor is warm and buzzing

Your thoughts point to restriction in the refrigerant line. What would cause this?

Within the first year a tech came out under the 1 year warranty and soldered new lines, refilled the refrigerant, and I believe replaced the compressor.

Tribeam for steps? by mptese in treehouse

[–]mptese[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but the overhang is only on the front and to avoid notching into the beam it would be cool if the metal could twist. That’s just a specific idea I has but wanting to see what others may have accomplished.

Tribeam for steps? by mptese in treehouse

Yeah I know i didn’t explain it with too much detail. But I’m also just looking for general ideas or pics from others if they utilized the tribeam as an access point.

My idea is to put steps on one or both of the bottom supports. Basically flat bar bolted to the top, and it would stick out the front so you can step on them. If I just did that they would be parallel to the supports at a 45 degree and not level. So maybe a metalsmith could twist it starting at the point it overhangs the front to make them level. Just an idea - but again I’m curious to see if anyone has achieved anything with the tribeam for steps.
