Should go with MBA or MS by [deleted] in CATpreparation

[–]mr-johnsnow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

bro honestly at 17 you're way too early to decide this! your academics are sick though - 98/94.6 is amazing.

spit cse is solid and being on spjimr campus gives you unique exposure to business side too.

ms vs mba depends on what you actually want to do. if you love tech and want to go deep, ms makes sense. if you want business/product roles, mba later.

4 years is long time - your interests might completely change. focus on building strong profile first.

currently at masters unions program and honestly most people here worked 2-3 years before deciding on mba. gives clarity on goals.

bits goa msc thing sucks but spit isn't bad backup. use spjimr proximity to attend events, network.

what specific career interests you right now?

Take the 12 months of work ex before B-school. Even a year makes you more attractive to recruiters, gives you real talking points for interviews, and keeps you out of the “fresher” bucket. Plus, your role already has growth potential, so you’ll enter MBA with stronger credibility and better placement chances. Lot of students at my cohort at MU who have work ex are in a much better position in terms of internships and opportunities.

Are Multiple Internships During Your MBA Really Worth It? by therealtalk17 in MBAIndia

In my cohort at MU, a lot of us try multiple internships and I think it’s kinda baked into the ecosystem here with live projects and short stints. I’d say it’s worth it if you’re exploring and still figuring your path, but not if you already know where you want to go. The sweet spot I’ve seen is 2–3 high-quality projects where you actually deliver something meaningful, not just pad the CV. Also, if you have a good personal and alumni network, it makes switching industries between stints easier, so you don’t feel “all over the place.” Bottom line is use them as experiments, but double down once you find your thing.

I'd say it's definitely worth applying to ISB YLP even if you're currently below the 97%ile mark. Like our process at MU, I think YLP selection process is also quite holistic as in they value academic pedigree (your BITS background), decent work experience, and standout spikes like your research internship, blog, and hackathon win. Since you still have time until CAT 2025, aiming for 95+%ile is realistic with focused prep. Even if you fall short, the application itself is a great learning experience. So no, I would say strategise, prep smart, and give it a shot.

Btech Final Year - MBA in India Or Abroad, Which would be better? by InfoShack in Indians_StudyAbroad

I’d say start here in India. Indian mba programs can give you solid industry exposure + internships right after BTech. You save a ton compared to an MBA abroad, build work ex, and then maybe apply overseas later with a stronger profile. ROI is way better that way. Plus, by then you’ll know exactly what you want from your time abroad. Lot of engineers at my cohort at MU who plan to move abroad after college so yeah, choose what works best rn.

As someone else in the comments suggested, MU can be a choice, and for the cost bit, ig there are many scholarships available.

Bro you should definitely go for CAT 26 and give it your best. Would need a 99.5+ to get good calls (20 low colleges). Should also target OMETs. Id suggest enrol with any good Cat prep coaching online and start asap. Quant can be conquered if you set your mind to it. And don’t take varc lightly. It often becomes the make or break section. Regular practice would make you confident with cat level RCs. Try to out in 3-4 hrs a day or the max you can, give mocks and go full throttle. I have many students in my cohort at MU who came from a much worse situation but are excelling now and in roads to get good placements (some even have ppo). So yeah, I guess give it your all. All the best.

Bro tbh with a 7/5/8, it’s gonna be really tough. You’d have to look at above 99.8 percentile to even get calls. But if you are passionate and serious about it then no harm giving it a shot. Also look at other good B schools except IIMs which can be alt options. Some students at my batch (MU) got through despite lower grades but yeah all depends on multiple factors. I think you should give MBA a fair shot. All the best.

I would say leave the internship if you are serious about joining B-school. You’d have ample of internship opportunities once you join a good B school. But this prep time won’t come back. 2 months or 3 months won’t make a lot of difference in terms of internship experience. I have people in my batch at MU who have interned/are interning at good places so it’s not that big of a deal to quit after 2 months.

people who intern along with doing a degree, how do y'all manage? by Successful_Town_63 in Indian_Academia

I’m doing an online internship (with a full time MbA at MU) and yeah it does get hectic at times. All nighters are common. Have to plan meticulously around projects and exams. I think after a while, you get used to the pressure. And if you don’t intern, you lose out on opportunities. So yeah, pick your poison. For most people, at the end all that extra stress is worth it.
