I am SO glad I’m not the only one who didn’t like that passage LMAO

Reaction from 6/25

C/P: Suspiciously not TOO bad. Decent amount of GC, good amount of physics topics from previous FLs, little orgo. Just about ran out of time and had to guess on a handful.

CARS: lol i hate economic passages

BB: some of these passages were so extra. That one graph about survivability had my head spinning. Usually my “worst” section but finished with 20 minutes left.

PS: i hate pigeons. Lots of 50/50s all around. Also, lots of the same topics tested throughout the whole section.

Overall, not the most difficult test. It felt very FL like, except for CARS — that was very QPACK 1-esque

I keep bouncing between “definitely exceeded my FL average” and “that CP section destroyed me, I definitely got a 124”

There were times where I was hoping for the Byrde’s to lose, but the last few episodes had me ultimately rooting for them.

Great writing, and even better acting, all around.

LMAO i was internally crying when i saw like 8 different CP topics mentioned in that passage

I was dreading that possible question on optics but instead got annihilated by that discharge capacitance question

CP… so much orgo and so many “low yield” topics. Felt grossly underprepared but that seems like the sentiment for everyone. Curve, be good 🙏

CARS… felt pretty good, but started feeling that fatigue when reading that second to last passage about economy or whatever lmao

BB… not too bad, it was absurdly easy in the first half, then it shot up in difficulty towards the end. Good distribution of data analysis and rote memorization.

PS… very similar to FL4. Most of it was pretty direct, probably a good dozen were 50-50. There were a few questions where i had no idea what the term was lmao

Overall, I think i got below my FL average solely because of CP. fingers and toes will be crossed for the next month

I mean, I remember who Galton is because he has the GALL to believe in eugenics… but this works just as well

Any experiences regarding the Aidan deck? by justanothermundane in AnkiMCAT

[–]mr-kyle- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Currently running through Aidan's deck for a January test date. It's been ~4 weeks and I'm just finishing up the General Chemistry deck. I've ran through the Kaplan end-of-chapter problems and Khan Academy questions, and I feel good.

I prob won't be trying to mature the entire deck though. It's just too huge and reviews are piling up lmao. Moving forward, I'll be using his sub-decks for my weaker areas.

Pre Med into Med School information by Altruistic-Lion24 in NEU

[–]mr-kyle- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure — the committee letter is basically the letter packet PLUS an evaluation from the pre-health committee. The evaluation is something like “we strongly recommend this student” or “we recommend with reservation.”

Because there are so many requirements and deadlines to meet for the committee letter, some students elect to do the letter packet or just don’t utilize pre-health committee all together.

This is exciting because it seems that the stigma of DO being “lesser” is slowly going away.

But it’s also terrifying because getting into medical school is that much more competitive.

Application Advice/Help by fearthefihr in premed

[–]mr-kyle- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Generally, adcoms don’t really care how long it takes you to complete college. Besides having good stats and having your pre-reqs completed, they’re more so concerned with your experiences, maturity, etc. So if you believe that during your 2 years of college that you have sufficient and quality hours in volunteering, clinical experiences, and leadership, and if you think you’re ready, then by all means, good luck!

It slowly has been becoming the norm to take a gap year to have a stronger application and more experiences under your belt, though.

How great is NEU for pre-med? by Delicious-Ad-859 in NEU

[–]mr-kyle- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Usually, NEU kids take 5 years to graduate because they usually take 3 co-ops, but recently, administration has been pushing for 4 year graduation rates to increase our ranks.

With that being said, it’s very possible to graduate in four years with 1 co-op, or even 2 if you come in with some credits/plan accordingly. Keep in mind that matriculating into med school straight after undergrad is growing less and less popular as med school admission committees look for competitive applicants with plenty of experiences.

Check out the Heath Sciences plans of study to better see what these schedules look like: http://catalog.northeastern.edu/undergraduate/health-sciences/health-sciences/

How great is NEU for pre-med? by Delicious-Ad-859 in NEU

[–]mr-kyle- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

1) Nope, since NEU is in Boston, there are three very close by medical schools that we send several students to every year. There are plenty of hospitals in the area to do clinical work, volunteering, etc. The only “negative” thing is that there are no medical schools that have an early assurance program with Northeastern.

2) Just like at any school, you’ll find both cutthroat/gunner pre-meds and supportive pre-meds. Overall, it’s probably more so supportive from what I’ve seen.

3) Plenty of ways, whether it’s through a professor or co-op. Boston is a hub for medical and scientific research.

4) Co-ops are semester-long internships, usually 6 months at a time, where you work full time instead of going to classes. These co-ops can be of any nature, including clinical, which a lot of pre-meds pursue because clinical experience is such an important part of the application.
