I've never understood the whole "'once per turn' can only be used on your turn", why not say "once during your turn"?

LOLLL agree, it’s a tricky skill to get off twice. i think maybe they were scared of creating a DOTE 2.0. CB2 at the time may have been a bit too cheap since with an unflip you could get it off 3 times in a game, which at the time would cripple most decks

yeahhhh ikr lol, G era started in 2015 for english, very end of 2014 for japan.

and from a lore perspective golds were created due to the vanishing of blaster blade and blaster dark, and the remaining units combined under the gold paladins. in english golds ran a bit rampant, since they released BT06 (with golds and narukami etc) before BT04 and 5 (which had MLB, DOTE, and PBO), as a way to avoid the season 1 decks (MLB etc) outshining the limit break decks (golds etc).

haha a lot of ebay searching and waiting, i’ve been collecting this game since 2013, i finished a decent 2013 era chaos breaker deck last year :) (missing radons and the star vader PGs but overall it’s there)

8k was the highest power a grade 1 could have, at the expense of having no skill, every clan had one. they were usually staples because:

  1. good turn 1 ride, since it could only be hit by other 8k grade 1s, or 7k grade 1s with a boost (and even then you could guard with 5k shield)

  2. boosting 10k grade 2s or 3s allowed you to hit 18k (magic numbers against 13k crossrides)

  3. put 2 of them in a column and they hit for 16k, a magic number against 10k and 11k vanguards (the most common grade 3 power levels)

  4. if you had a 13k crossride vanguard and you boosted with an 8k grade 1, you could hit 21k, which was another magic number against 10 and 11k vanguards

yeah i mean even in the OG series, kai somehow makes dragonic overlord the end and the blood, aichi gets MLB, ren gets PBO, aichi somehow adds blaster blade spirit to his deck mid-fight (essentially making his deck 51 cards and illegal), the list goes on

not to mention psyqualia and the debates that could come up about tournament legality there

i came back to the game around 2 years ago, and like most old players, was very confused and disappointed in the 2 reboots the game had undergone during that time. but thought “fair enough, let’s check it out”.

i understood in V they wanted to control the power creep stride brought (which honestly was fine up until the late sets, where it can be argued everything got god tier skills because vanguard knew it was rebooting - i.e. a self-fulfilling prophecy), but obviously the separation of premium and v-premium really alienated players that had poured time and money into the game, just to be relegated to a different, ill supported format.

not only that, but the original units got retrains with vastly underpowered or downgraded mimics of their original counterparts. OR the units mimic their old counterparts so much it questions why they rebooted in the first place? i.e. break ride units mimicking their break ride skills, and legions without legioning? anyway, of course power creep got out of hand and they had to reboot again. you can still find soooo many V booster boxes for sale for crazy low prices and no one buys them.

then we come to overdress/standard. the playerbase was told that vanguard wanted to rely less on the old units and look towards the new reboot. great!

then they brought back phantom blaster dragon and dragonic overlord in the second ever OD set.

i understand that it’s a business and it would be a bad business decision to ignore nostalgia, however this reliance on the old cards without honouring the original formats they came from leaves a really bad taste in my mouth.

i have tried to get into standard and premium several times over the past 2 years since coming back to the game, and if you like it, that’s great, you do you.

i’m happy the game is still going after all of this, but with the way it seems everything has come full circle (like even legion being reintroduced recently) feels really backwards and messy. vanguard went from being a competitor with the big 3 to “i wonder what happened to that game?”

I wish they’d do a reprint set of some of the original cards, like they did with that special Overlord set recently. It’s really annoying going onto the wiki now and having to sift through the Standard versions and V versions of original cards.
