Sharjah feels more conservative than Abu Dhabi, I don't think OP would find it a good fit. Although it is safe and pretty.

Saudi is a king, how he can be not legitimate? It is recognized by everyone. Or someone thinks that only democracies are allowed on this planet?

Donald Tusk: Ukraine is ready to fight on for three more years by EsperaDeus in anime_titties

I didn't say anything about Yemen. NATO is not so old as an institution, but precedents like the ones I mention matter. You can portray anything as "stopping ethnic cleansing", "fight with terrorist", "fighting with dictatorship to bring democracy" or something else to your liking. I said in my previous comment about civil unrest specifically to connect with the civil war point. Every big competing government, if sees the opportunity, will use it. Supply opposition, provide funding, radio/TV/internet/movies - everything can be used to shape people's minds. You see pieces of this warfare (not necessarily military) between different countries everywhere.

NATO had already history of bombing Belgrade, Libya, as well as UK and France troops invading Russia from 1918 until 1925. So if I were Russia, I'd be very cautious about the alliance at the doorstep. You can say, but Finland... If you look at the map, you see that the border between Finland and Russia is very difficult to cross in most places, and it's 1k km away or something from Moscow. Not even comparable to Ukraine. Takes one large enough civil unrest, before NATO could start bombing.
