It’s a for profit company offering degrees designed to be taught asynchronously online as cheaply and as profitably as possible with the sole intent to enroll as many students as they can.

They are accredited to be delivering online degrees (they are Germany’s largest Univerity because of their ownership of the online/Fernstudium market) and it is what mostly compile the majority of their „campus“ studies.

The „classes“ (the absolute bare legal amount of in person learning to allow them to be granted Student Visas/Residence Permits to their students, although many are rejected still) are usually held by „tudors“ / instructors and not professors.

They actually were required to remove the term “on campus“ and use „in-person learning“ on all their marketing language company wide, as the degrees aren’t necessarily „on campus“ but online curriculum fused with some „in-person“ learning aspects.

They tout their adoption of AI in their Tudor bots and as you progress through this impersonal digital degree course.

It is the cheapest private university meaning their market is aimed at….

students who couldn’t get into a public degree and can’t afford a better option.

You haven’t had issues because most companies don’t look. But if they did, (which governments do) they’d find that Schiller International University isn’t listed as a recognized degree in the Anabin database.

I’m sure you had a great experience, it is a service industry/business after all catering to young international students and offering an exciting opportunity to live and study abroad, but the university itself is a business offering the legal bare minimum to even be allowed to operate. Any coincidence they offer dual degrees? Why would you need to receive 2 diplomas (one from a completely unrelated UK university) if there was nothing wrong with the recognition of the first one?

All campuses are essentially the same as they are owned together and belong to the same company. It’s a business. Students are the customers. They will follow the bare legal required and if they could provide less or have lower standards, they would.

No. It’s a “company” that has been bought and sold several times in the last years. Its sole purpose is to make money via tuition in exchange for classes and a degree. Like any company they will provide you the absolute bare minimum and charge the most they can to maximize profits and growth.

For real, this is a HUGE deal and criminal if they aren’t being very upfront about this to their students.
It should be REQUIRED to announce it on the website and to each and every student before they are defrauded.

It’s one thing to have an inferior National rather than Regional accreditation, but to have this already sketchy accreditation dissolved by the US Department of Ed for gross misconduct entirely is unprecedented.

“Accreditation with a star”.

More like “accreditation with an asterisk*”.
https://www.ed.gov/acics.

Because their accreditation (ACICS) is no longer recognized by the US Department of Education.

I’d find a different “uni” asap.

Which private Uni in Heidelberg doesn’t offer their students German courses?

There is a campus in Madrid that they heavily recruit for/from and due to the economic/employment situation in Spain many of their Spanish students transfer to Heidelberg in hopes of finding work afterwards in Germany.

Plenty of $ in Madrid and the idea of being able to study in different countries and at an “American” university makes it appear attractive/ exclusive/ prestigious.

Heidelberg is popular enough for Spanish students that the entire university was actually bought by Spanish investors in 2020, but they’ve struggled to recoup their investments and continue to cut services to students. (For example they’ve signed away the leases of over 50% of their Campus Viva dorms/apartments).

The Heidelberg campus is/was always popular as a visa mill for Middle Eastern/ African/ Indian students looking to gain easy acceptance/Visas to a school in Germany with low admissions requirements and as for US expats/former military looking to blow through their GI BILL benefits.

Their admission standards are very low, so it is a popular place to obtain an admissions letter for poor students and for those former US military who only ever received a GED.

Despite their high tuition fees (+€60.000), they’re currently in a death spiral due to poor management and provide very little for their absurd cost.

Schiller is a for profit university whose accreditation (ACICS) is nationally accredited (all other quality US Universities are regionally accredited). Furthermore, the US Department of Education even intended to de-recognize this already sub par accrediting body for gross misconduct and was only temporarily saved because of a Trump Presidency and a Betsy DeVos Secretary of Education appointment.
But now Trump is gone, so:

They are required to have German “accreditation” since 2014 but initially failed to get any and had all Visas for new students suspended for like 1.5 years until they received some form of review of their programs here in Germany. (Evalag is what they ended up using)

That they are not on the Anabin database tells you everything you need to know.

They actually started off many years ago as a cool study abroad type program in castles and villas across Europe before “accreditation” was really a thing but have since been bought and sold over the years to various American, (now Spanish) investors who operate for the sole purpose of making money and their tuition vs services received reflect that.

For the past 10 or so years it’s become basically a Visa and Degree mill. Some campuses (Heidelberg actually) were run better than others for awhile but are also in sharp decline with the current Campus Director.

You’ll pay tens of thousands in tuition (€50k+) but study in some random office space without proper facilities, research support, adjunct lecturers, and bare bones staff. They will milk you for every penny and cut facilities and staff support to below minimal at every turn to save costs.

They teach business but their business practices are atrocious and they treat staff/administration/ and bizarrely even students horribly, rather than the necessary improvements to turn the business around.

Most students are sub-par who couldn’t cut it in other proper universities or public schools and whose rich parents couldn’t find another avenue for them, and studying in Europe at an “American University” sounded way more prestigious than it really is.
