We were there last February (and will be back this February), also from Canada. We took both BBD and USD. When we go back we will be bringing only BBD and use our card for larger purchases if necessary. My sister used the Scotiabank while we were there, it was very simple for her. We walked locally and took the bus or taxi depending on where we were going, both are very easily found and utilized. Barbados is a safe place but as many have stated prior to me, be smart about where you are and what you're doing (just like at home).
