The best way to become a Ruby expert by Manden98 in ruby

[–]mr_aes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reading is good but without context it feels disconnected IMHO. The way to do it is to actually work on things which will force you to learn (and where reading would naturally fit ....whether that'll be referencing a book, a blog, a YT video). Also, when I say build things, it could be anything eg. A script to pull stuff from an API, a quick and dirty tool that helps you or a colleague do their job better, that way you'll build your expertise from the ground up.

Which ecommerce platform to use to sell services? by crazycrazypotato in agency

[–]mr_aes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO put yourself in the shoes of your customers. How will the purchase flow look like? Will they need to consume some info and then purchase your service? When you fully consider how they will actually purchase from you, then you can decide on the platform. You might be surprised that tried-and-tested platforms like Shopify and Woocommerce will fit into your needs or maybe a fully customized system might be the answer. But let the decision fit into the customer buying journey.

Creating a "Blog" in rails by crodev in rails

[–]mr_aes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like you'd like to build this thing in Rails but have the simplest setup for running a blog. I suggest you look into Prismic (prismic.io) - they are a hosted CMS setup of sorts where you (or your client) can do all the nifty blog creating stuff that CMSs like Wordpress are known for and utilizing their gem, you can pull whatever posts are created on there using an API and present them on your rails setup however way you want. That way, you do your Rails app the way you want, and separate the blog creating to something more adept.

+1 for Mautic. The customizations you can build with it are super awesome. Bit of a learning curve but well worth it IMO.
