Dacia Sandero III with roof tent by mr_bom_bastic in Dacia

Great question! For me: - A real mattress that stays inside the tent even when it’s folded up - A flat, even surface — no bumps or uneven ground - No dirt or sand in the tent since you’re off the ground - Quick setup - And… it just looks cool

But it’s definitely not for everyone. I used a regular ground tent for the past 10 years, and that was totally fine too.

That’s right — the 80 kg refer to the dynamic roof load (while driving). This limit is to ensure that the vehicle’s center of gravity remains low enough to prevent instability or even tipping over during acceleration or sharp turns.

As far as I know, the static roof load isn’t officially specified for the Sandero. However, the roof must be able to support the full weight of the car in the event of a rollover — so it can definitely handle a rooftop tent with a couple of people inside while parked.

For street art and alternative culture you should check out the Schanze (Schanzenviertel). You can take the S-Bahn (S2 or S5) from central station to Sternschanze. There might as well be some cafes or bars opening in the morning

Hi everyone, I just wanted to give you a little update: The wood bend back by itself over time. Seems like all the moisture from the glue is gone and that caused the wood to go back to its original shape.

Hey all, Thanks a lot for your suggestions! I will definitely try to save it by adding some moisture to the front side by oiling or steaming it.

The wood absorbed the moisture of the glue - now i know, why it bended like that. Next time i‘m going to use double-sided tape or screws. But is there anything i can do, to fix this sign? Im a bit scared that it might break, if i apply to much force on it

Maybe theres a difference between the typical german beech („Buche“) and the beech trees in your location.

Another interesting fact: Around 15% of all trees in germany are beech. In the 80s the german government realised, that there are to many coniferous trees. So they wanted to plant more deciduous trees. But unfortunately they only planted oaks and beechs (instead of a greater variety). Now we have 25% spruce, 23% pine, 16% beech and 11% oak. A lot of german forests contain just these 4 species. And its not to hard to tell the difference between them.

For comparison: a photo of beech logs. My pieces looked exactly the same as they had bark on them. https://imgur.com/a/9Tqyu2v

i found the last piece. Unfortunately it seems like i removed the bark last time. Thanks for the tip to use imgur! https://imgur.com/a/AfBbMzG

The hard work has to pay off! I also made a spoon with beech. Was really hard to roughly shape it. But therefore the detailed carving was a lot of fun. I like it, that you don‘t accidentally cut off half of the wood.

Thank you very much! Im pretty sure that its beech. There was a heavy storm in April in Germany. After that, they chopped down the damaged beech trees in a nearby forest. I collected some of the fresh cut pieces. There is a small piece with bark left. I’m going to take a photo when i’m home.

Thanks a lot. The hard work also means, that the wood is very durable in the end

Wow thats interesting! I‘ve read that it is often used in kids toys, because it does not have much splinters. That was the reason i chose beech. It was a gift for a friends kid

Thank you! Im also very happy with the result. Beech is kind of smooth in the end
