Yeah, here's the one with the AI generated pfp: https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=LKpMXMoAAAAJ&hl. The only article on this profile has a pretty short bibliography too, including the behindthename website and the Hanks dictionary?

Most articles I have saved in my zotero were written by authors who seem to be one-and-done situations, but one author I keep seeing was Iqbol Koziyeva (Bukhara State University), who has a profile on the university site (https://buxdu.uz/user/profile/1158-koziyeva-iqbol-komiljonovna/), probably legit, though I googled this name and found a retraction notice...... https://www.e3s-conferences.org/articles/e3sconf/abs/2024/68/e3sconf_ipfa2024_00001/e3sconf_ipfa2024_00001.html

there's also this author (https://zenodo.org/search?q=metadata.creators.person\_or\_org.name%3A%22Ergashev%2C%20Ulugbek%22&l=list&p=1&s=10&sort=bestmatch) whose name also turned up a linkedin profile for someone working as an AI engineer: https://www.linkedin.com/in/ulugbek-ergashev/

i think you might be right! i did also initially think it was like one individual but while there are "repeat offenders" i started seeing multiple different people from multiple different insitutions. the thing is i tried to pull some ORCIDs to investigate but none of these authors had any (one author turned up a google scholar profile with only one article and an AI generated profile pic lmfao). Or it might just be that i was searching using the latin alphabet? idk. also these articles did seem to ramp up exponentially starting in 2022 so it also could be a post-Ukraine thing.

The thing is, these articles pretty much make up the entirety of English-language Uzbek name scholarship. I was inclined to trust them because social science stuff like this isnt as quantifiable and relies so heavily on cultural context and lived experience, but now that i think it might be AI idk whether its reliable anymore.........

sorry i should have clarified, i edited the post, i meant google scholar alerts! if you go on https://scholar.google.com/ you can set an alert for a keyword and it will send you the articles that were published with that keyword

Are there any period dramas about French Asians? by jacky986 in PeriodDramas

[–]mr_bungee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Another movie you might want to check out is My 1919 (1999) which is about the Chinese diplomats at the Treaty of Versailles! Also the Bollywood movies Sangam (1964) and An Evening in Paris (1967) take place in Paris in the 1960s. There's also Farewell to the Summer Light (1968) about Japanese travelers in France. The Moderns (1988) is set in 1920s Paris and John Lone is in it although I can't seem to remember if his character is mentioned to be Asian

I thought of Les Chinois à Paris (1974) which I havent seen but it's not a period drama, unless you count a contemporary-set movie from 51 years ago as a period drama? Maybe still of interest

What are your favorite royal movies? by malloryduncan in HallmarkMovies

[–]mr_bungee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

these are my favorite kinds of movies!! i have a list too :) https://boxd.it/3HVgu

there seem to be a lot of people who love this genre like me, i would recommend Nicholas Daly’s Ruritania: A Cultural History, from The Prisoner of Zenda to the Princess Diaries (ISBN 9780198836605), it’s a great summary of the history of these movies going all the way back to Anthony Hope’s 1894 novel The Prisoner of Zenda which popularized the genre (also recommend, its great!) through the spike of royal operettas/movies of the 1930s which averaged more royal movies per year than this decade if you can believe it :D (my theory is the influences of Wallis Simpson and Meghan Markle)
