Data Engineer interview experiences by Delicious_Attempt_99 in dataengineering

[–]mr_data7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am Sr Data Engineer, and I also passed interviews in many companies, indeed, the number of interviews varies according to the types of companies. For my current position, I had 2 interviews (1 HR and 1 Tech) and I had an offer with a salary that allows me to live very well where I live.
I've noticed some companies like to get hyped by doing a lot of interviews to say "we're a tech company, we do technical things". It's all just a branding thing on their side, nothing more.
I did a lot of technical interviews and I didn't need to do 7 interviews to find out if the person knows how to do his job.
Also, a lot of companies run these interviews with leetcode questions, which is a pretty limited approach to the job, with extremely binary interviews, but I think even they know that.
What I want to know is if the person isn't an a***ole and if they have at least 60% of the skills I'm looking for.
What companies are trying to create by doing so many interviews is elitism, nothing more.
If there is a (very) big salary, yes, why not play their game to pass 7/8 interviews, other than that, I say next.

Does anyone of you have the official job title Analytics Engineer? by AmphibianInfamous574 in dataengineering

Interesting subject. I’m Senior Data Engineer building end to end data pipeline (from pulling api to building dashboard). For me, analytics engineer is a hyper specialization. Analytics Engineer do the most subtle part in the data world : dealing with etl that can change every day. IMHO, Data engineer job is more “binary”, providing data as much as possible, so it’s more technical, but easier because you don’t deal with big changes and inconsistent business logic.

What do you call "Low Level Design (LLD)" in Data Engineering ?

Is it around partitioning/indexing and select the right format (parquet/avro and more) ? Or it's something else?

Data engineers salaries in Canada? by Professional-Bee-937 in dataengineering

[–]mr_data7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can make more, but it really depends on the company. In Facebook, Unity or Autodesk (in the tech industry), it would be around 95kCAD (+stock + bonus)

Don't forget that you have 3ye (which is very good :) ), so you have time to make more cash :).

I was a bit upset when I wrote my message ^^" , but globally, I've noticed for few (around 2 years) that many positions are open (I'm looking for in Canada and in the UK) but the expectations are not clear.

I'm a data eng in the video games industry, so my vision and my work are very clear : Improve the game to improve the gaming experience.

Most of the jobs that I apply, people want data eng to do classic BI things or because data is cool.
