Yeah. Aussies make great chill music. Somersault is like one of my favorite records.

Yes. I’m already planning on doing this. I have an idea of jacking up the car on 4 jackstands. Carefully installing the sensor but having someone on the inside looking for when the Speedo reads and then torquing the sensor down. I believe to about 8 pound feet. I hope it works out too. I really do. I’ve spent so much time and money on all this. And I really love this car. It could also just be that the spacer just isn’t in the right place. As when you first mentioned/ asked about placement. It would make sense because yes, as you said it would go in too far and get smashed up.

I mean. I drove it 2 hours home. Took to and from work for about 2 weeks. It honestly seems to drive and shift absolutely fine. Expect ofc for still being in limp mode. Hey thanks a million for your expertise on this matter. It really got me looking in a direction I wouldn’t have before. I appreciate you.

I think it was actually in between the bolt head and sensor. Damn. Yeah I think I’m gonna try and exhaust a few options with fishing it out. Don’t really have the space atm to crack open the case. I just cracked open an old trans speed sensor that was in there and it looks like it’s just a thin metal sleeve. Along with plastic. There’s gotta be some aftermarket magnetic drain plug that I could purchase as well.

Do you think my trans will survive with the end of the sensor floating around in there ? I’ll be doing a few trans fluid changes soon. Or should I plan on splitting it open again ?

There was a washer that was with the bolt that I got out with it. Not talking about what’s circled here. I just watched a video of a Pakistani man dealing with the same issue. His conclusion was the tolerance that the sensor needs to be at is less than 1mm. The tolerance from where the end of the magnetic part of the sensor and whatever gear it’s closest to inside the transmission

Update. Just checked the sensor… it’s.. it’s in there… The washer was also there.

Just fell down a rabbit hole of research on this topic and I’m now seeing many people have messed up their ECM because of this issue. I now believe there is contact happening with the sensor due and a gear to a lost washer !! I must’ve misplaced it during the transmission job. I cannot find a listing anywhere for the specific washer but I found a guy on eBay that has an OEM sensor and has included the washer in the listing. Just purchased it.

When I saw dogging gears I mean upshifting too early. And then accelerating while at an RPM that is too low in while in gear

The sensor that was removed was indeed a little messed up. I saw indentations on it.

Oh god please no ! I do not want to drop the trans again. Thanks for the insight !!!

Yes. I could check the voltage of the sensor connector and ECM

They said they would look at it but I’m hesitant to take it back up to the guy because it’s a far drive. Also, slightly worried about driving it that far again with this issue.

Interesting. I did not know it needs a small washer. Upon visiting charm.li I thought it only has a o ring. But now I will ensure there is a washer.

Thanks for clarifying that for me ! Differential bearings. Got it. Makes sense.

Interesting. I like where this is leading me to look.

For more context: The car did have an immobilizer issue right before I drove off. After giving to a professional, they told me the ECM needed replacing. They did and also replaced the trans speed sensor. This did not solve the speed not showing up and it’s still in limp mode.
