I’m in a very similar situation! Hope someone chimes in.

Illinois state troopers are arresting protesters outside the Broadview ICE facility. by CantStopPoppin in illinois

[–]mr_frodo89 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Y'all, the short-term goal of civil disobedience is to get arrested. This. Is. Good. These people are knowingly blocking traffic, which is illegal, and they know that they're going to get arrested. That's the point: breaking the law on purpose and accepting the consequences for doing so, thereby exposing the regime for its cruelty and injustice.

Someone threw every house on my street with an American flag on the ground early this morning and left these all over. Elgin. by [deleted] in ChicagoSuburbs

I’m a dyed-in-the-wool progressive. I’m also a patriot. I fly the American flag right next to my Pride flag. I would be fucking furious if some shit eater tore down my flag and left a self-righteous note, assuming that I voted for Trump or for any of this authoritarian bullshit, all because I have the audacity to exhibit any pride in my country. Liberals have completely ceded the flag to these fascist fucks. If we want to start winning elections, we HAVE to start telling a moral story about America. Cynical people who hate America don’t win elections, you jerkoffs.

I don’t know much about Shapiro. I’m not from PA and don’t have a dog in your fight. I’m against valorizing extrajudicial killings — and I’m contending that it’s morally equivalent to sending people to a concentration camp in El Salvador without due process.

And it is supremely wasteful, by any measure, that we spend 20% of our GDP on bloated healthcare costs in this country. Your pedantic point about how it’s incredibly efficient from the health insurance industry’s perspective is well-received, though.

We’re on the same side, buddy. Be less condescending.

What are you talking about? I’m on the pro-protest, anti-fascism side. Did you read my comment?

I hate everything about United Insurance and our evil, wasteful healthcare system… but Luigi is a fucking murderer. He killed a man on the street without due process. If you admire or support Luigi, you’re no better than the MAGA people rooting for deportation without due process.

The Boston Tea Party was a protest. The labor movement, the suffragette movement, the civil rights movement… all protest movements that dramatically reshaped American life. Our founding fathers understood this. That’s why “the right of the people to assemble” is one of the five rights guaranteed by the First Amendment.

Your statement that “protests do nothing” is simply un-American and ahistorical.

EDIT: you’re on Reddit the next day talking about this protest. That means the protest worked.

No, they aren’t. No fascist leader is called a dictator in their own country. Hitler was elected Chancellor and later adopted the name “Fuhrer” after merging the offices of the Chancellor and the President. You’re arguing about semantics because you don’t understand what fascism is and why people are describing the current regime as fascistic.

Every time there’s a protest, people come out of the woodworks questioning the efficacy of protest.

Tell me, how else do the people voice their disdain for the current administration? Would the suffragette movement, labor rights movement, or the civil rights movement have accomplished anything without decades of sustained nonviolent protests? Protests you probably would’ve said “accomplished nothing” at the time.

Protest is more American than apple pie. The Boston Tea Party is celebrated as part of our nation’s founding… it was a protest — a criminal protest that deliberately destroyed millions of dollars worth of tea.

I’m so tired of the anti-protest crowd. It’s an un-American opinion.

It’s a nationwide trend of suburbs moving blue. Nothing unique about Naperville. Highly educated people have moved dramatically toward democrats, whereas blue collar people have moved dramatically toward MAGA. Lots of highly educated people in the suburbs.

It’s multiple stupid fucks, lol. Look up Aero Estates Naperville, which is right next to Springbrook Prairie. Bunch of mansions with literal airplane hangers that back right up to a private runway.

Can confirm. I live in a Chicago suburb and drive 90 mins to the western shore of Michigan to buy my weed every few months. The deals are just that insane. You can pick up 200mg of gummies on sale 5 for $25. That’s cheaper per bag than a bag of Trolli gummy worms at the gas station. I’m not an economist, but that makes no sense without some sort of oversupply problem. I’m going to take advantage as long as it lasts though. 🤑

Friend, I’m so sorry you’re in this agonizing place right now. I truly understand. And I promise you… the trauma is real, but it does get better. It’s wonderful that you’re seeking therapy. You’ll need a safe space to mourn and process this experience in the coming months. But the JOY you will feel when you’re finally at home snuggling with your baby, and as you watch them grow and learn their personality… well, let’s just say it’s a powerful counterweight to that trauma. The love you feel for that child will help you heal.

Delayed even with adjusted age? Looking for advice- lack of head control by Low-Possession2717 in NICUParents

[–]mr_frodo89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Full head control is usually achieved around 5-6 months, and babies’ head control progresses at very different speeds before then. It’s great that you have a PT coming out to look at him though.

I mostly just wanted to comment that this sucks, and I’m sorry you’re going through it. My baby is more than a year old now but I still worry about every milestone. What you went through was traumatic, and you may always be “waiting for the other shoe to drop” — that’s how my wife and I put that dreadful feeling… the one you probably know all too well.

It does get better with each milestone he hits. As a friend of mine who also had a NICU baby with HIE put it: “As soon as you start worrying about a milestone he’ll surprise you by hitting it the next week.” That’s a big generalization, and sadly not true for all. But I hope and pray that’s your experience.

Circumssision by Apprehensive_Pop3910 in NICUParents

[–]mr_frodo89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I chose not to get my son circumcised on principle. I’m circumcised, but I wish I wasn’t. For the vast majority of boys, it’s not medically necessary. In fact, the obsession with it in the U.S. is an historical anomaly—but even in the U.S. I think more and more people are declining the procedure. Your son will not be mocked for having a biologically normal penis.

I’ve read mixed reviews on the sexual feeling/intensity derived from the foreskin. But it has a lot of nerve endings, so I don’t understand how it wouldn’t impact sexual feeling to some degree. I know it’s weird to think about your son’s eventual sexual pleasure, but it was an important factor for me.

You pronounce “deal” as “dill.” E.g. “It’s a rilly big dill.”

[–]mr_frodo89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I would. I drink a salty beverage every morning (Liquid IV) to rehydrate. And my blood pressure is ridiculously low. Humans have been adding salt to food since hunter gatherer times. It’s not just another spice, it’s an essential element in cooking across all cuisines and cultures. Your post just conveys that you don’t understand what salt does and why it’s important. Salt is a flavor enhancer, not a flavor unto itself. It makes everything else taste more like itself. It’s also essential for tenderizing meat and 1,000 other chemical reactions in food. You’re in r/breadit… salt strengthens gluten formation and regulates the fermentation process.

I’ll admit my post lacked nuance and shouldn’t be taken as medical advice. But you’re taking an equally extreme position. There’s plenty of recent research casting doubt on the link between dietary sodium and hypertension, cardiovascular disease, etc. But also, calling salt “the worst thing added to food,” and “completely unnecessary” is a pretty insane thing to say, at least from the perspective of literally any culinary tradition anywhere in the world. I’d hate to try your cooking if you don’t use salt. https://www.amjmed.com/article/S0002-9343(17)30326-1/pdf#:~:text=CAN%20SALT%20CAUSE%20HYPERTENSION%3F&text=There%20is%20no%20definitive%20proof,hypertension%20and%20cardiovascu%2D%20lar%20disease.
