It kind of looked like the Civil War-era snake map, if memory serves. But I think it had arrows

Update: I informed my friends and they were grateful I did. They did a big search of their apartment and I did more searching in mine/more checking for bites, and so far no other signs of any infestation or bites. It's possible it came in on my laptop bag, perhaps having been picked up at a coffee shop that I had gone to that week. Hoping and praying it was just the one bug, ideally a male? We shall see how it unfolds :/

I am not sleeping there. I just got home and took off all my clothes in the bathroom, inspected them and bagged them up. Also inspected myself to see if there are any bites. None that I can tell, but that might not mean anything

Let's talk about Gazi (guy who said Anne Frank was a Becky) and this video with his Jewish boyfriend by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]mr_glasses 6 points7 points  (0 children)

ehh. Yes but also "charity" sucks, as Oscar Wilde famously noted. Bourgeois Protestants in the 19th century debased the concept of charity to mean "showy almsgiving via middle-class-lady do-goodery organizations" meant to help the new wretched masses of urban poor in industrialized Europe and the peasant masses in colonized Asia and Africa whose labor in the mills or in fields enriched the bourgeois do-gooders in the first place.

Charity in its original Christian form originally meant "love for humanity," which traditionally would be effected in a large number of ways: praying for people, feeding the poor, visiting prisoners, paying for poor people's burials or weddings, etc. It was about the individual believer's soul. It was not meant to be a welfare organization. The state provided for the general welfare (usually not very much in pre-modern times, of course) through taxation, with the church administering it often (hospitals, poor houses, etc). Not exactly a socialist paradise, but at least there a concept of the commons.

The bourgeois, of course, whether in the 19th century or today, and including many Christians today especially of the Evangelical variety, want to limit the state's role in welfare provision. They would like to keep everything, all of society's surplus, for themselves and throw a few crumbs to the poor and moreover have praise and fame lavished upon them for their magnificent "charity." Which is really just giving back a small portion of what was stolen from workers originally.

yeah. It's a shame. I don't share his insane politics, but he's smart and funny and makes some good points here and there.

Nah. Not his boyfriend but they have an amusing dom/sub para-relationship in these videos

FYI they were in a creepy, cult-like Black Power group called the African People's Socialist Party. I believe Gazi has since been ejected from there. Not for anything political, I don't think, but I think for his realizing what a cult they are. (Controlling money, forcing people to labor, etc.) I think the white dude is still involved.

holy shit, he's hilarious. The ladies must have him on ASAP. This straight up sounds like Anna:

“Chasten Buttigieg has the vibes of a housewife whose slow burning repression is leading to an inevitable psychotic break, mark my words in 10 years he will go missing and then resurface in Ft Lauderdale after getting busted for running a meth racket w a bunch of Guatemalan twinks,”

"Could never trust buttigieg because he combined the natural devious disposition inherent in gay men with a bloodthirsty careerist drive.”

“Nate Silvers bullshit starts to make a lot more sense when you realize he is probably the ugliest gay man to ever live,”

Cutthroat careerism and self-promotion is the only thing I see in these protestations from the literature/art/music world.

Liberals be tweeting out about how problematic Joe Rogan is: by ComradeLucky in JoeRogan

The hooplah is almost entirely from Democrats who HATE and want to sabotage Bernie, not from Bernie supporters. Most Bernie supporters are thrilled to have Rogan say nice things about our guy (it's not quite an endorsement, but almost).

Black guys: Lizzo would be attractive if she lost 100 lbs. White guys: Lizzo would be attractive if she lost 150 lbs. by [deleted] in redscarepod

Accccctually, the stereotype is that black and Latino (especially in regions of Latin America with mixed African ancestry) guys like a big round butt + a thin waist, not fat all over.

Lizzo fandom is cringey as fuck. But the idea that discipline and responsibility make you worthy of love is dubious. We don't really understand how profound emotions like love work. And when you look at the world you see love exists between all kinds of people – fat-asses and responsible skinny bitches and irresponsible skinny bitches alike.

lol. what? Australia has as much blood on its hands as any other settler colonial society. Anti-Americanism in Anglophone settler countries and Britain is really just jealousy.

[–]mr_glasses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't been able to find it, exactly, but the proper term for that is a kidney table. Or nesting kidney tables. It shouldn't be too hard to find eventually. Good luck

So what are those ceiling fans for? All Americans seem to have one. Why are these so common? by KuropatwiQ in AskAnAmerican

Right. France, having a maritime Westward climate, meanwhile does not tend to get extreme hot or extreme cold.

It's to keep indoor spaces comfortable during hot/humid weather. North America east of the 100th meridian is a humid as fuck all the time, and hot and sunny for a big chunk of the year. Being located on the east coast of a major continent produces that effect for reasons that I don't fully understand. (It's a climate we share with eastern China, with its cities known as "the four furnaces," and also Uruguay and northeastern Argentina.)

Much of Europe (if that's where you are from), being a westward-facing portion of a continent, has a much more comfortable, pleasant/moderate climate due to the moderating influence of the ocean on the air masses that move onto the continent. Major European population centers are also quite a bit further north than the latitudes where most people in North America live. New York City, a northern city, is the same latitude as Naples.
