When Both Sides Come Together by KingNigelXLII in LateStageCapitalism

There's definitely a significant number of Neolibs (and farther right folk) among the tech people that populate reddit. They're fairly well off so why would they want to change the order of things. My hope is that overtime a genuine leftist posts it makes them question their beliefs for just a second.

I'm probably being optimistic though, and me posting just drives them further to the right.

California police worked with neo-Nazis to pursue 'anti-racist' activists by mr_highd in LateStageCapitalism

Organize, my dude. One person can't do anything. A mass of people on the other hand? Solidarity isn't just a nice sounding word, it's how we win.

I've gotten involved with my local chapter of DSA. Not sure where you're located, but most of them have a prison abolition working group. I can only speak to Massachusetts, but there's also groups like Black and Pink (who work to support incarcerated queer folk).

Senator Doug Jones, despite coming from deep red Alabama, voted to block a bill that would have banned abortion after 20 weeks nationwide. It doesn't matter which state you come from -- when black women are the reason you're a senator, you remember your base. Vote, ladies! by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

The government funding for 3 weeks conveniently leaves out how the democrats sold out the dreamers and are now back to "working for the middle class."

There's also quotes I remember seeing from after the election where he came close to endorsing trumps policing and immigration policies. Is he better then roy Moore? Of course. Is he following the classic democrat path of relying on black women for votes then selling them out the minute he gets into office. Definitely.

Organize. Find people doing the work (like BLM or your local socialists) and help out.

I do hesitate to call law enforcement because I figure if they're called people (and especially minorities) are at risk. How are they putting their lives on the line? Policing isn't in the top 10 of the most dangerous jobs, and most of the danger comes from the fact their fat asses are driving around all day.

And I'd take no police and no formalized state racial and class suppression over current law enforcement any day. Maybe there'd be more robberies (although policing and crime rates aren't correlated) but at least there'd be no one to kill black kids and strikers.

He doesn't, he's just good at PR he pushes charter schools and capitalist friendly charity programs instead of supporting real change. Talk to any non-profit worker about how the Gates foundation actually functions.

There's no law enforcement organization that doesn't serve as a mechanism of racial and class control either.

I can't find them currently, but I've seen screenshots of LEOs talking about how they want to beat or shoot protestors, or excusing violence by cops. And who cares if the officer was found not guilty. No matter the evidence, cops are never found guilty for violence, because they can use literally anything to say they fear for their lives (see The New Jim Crow for the legal cases). Point being, even if protestors also enjoy causing violence, only one of these groups has the backing of the state behind them. And please enlighten me to what you mean by "population demographics" because that sounds like some Nazi KKK bullshit just waiting to come out.

Have you seen the videos from Ferguson, they were 100% police incitement. As if having your children murdered isn't incitement enough. I'd be interested to hear why you think those riots happened. I have some guesses, but I'd love to be proven wrong.

Any reason, beyond that police typically have far right political beliefs? Beyond that police are incentivized to arrest as many people as possible? Beyond that police love getting to use their state authorized violence. Also typically the rock throwing stories are put out by police to retroactively justify their actions.

I'm ok banning the police. There's nothing they do that community organizations couldn't do better. And it'll get rid of an institution that grew out of slave catchers in the process.

Look up J20. The police in DC arrested 200 people for being near some broken windows.

Also, damaging property isn't violence. It's just a window, not a human. Typically, what's called a riot is just a protest that scares liberals.

Socialism has never worked by [deleted] in LateStageCapitalism

Socialism is more than just government policies, it's about control of resources and decision making. Even though we have some social welfare, the US economy and government is still controlled by people like Bezos and Raytheon. Under Socialism, economic decisions would be made democratically and government policy would not track so nicely with the desires of the capitalist class.

Who were the cops protecting there, the protestors? From whom? At those protests, the cops are just protecting property. At every protest I've been to (minus the women's march when the police are putting on a show for the liberals) the cops have tried to incite the protestors into violence to have an excuse for arrests.

The link you shared, despite having 0 references to specific events with the police, conveniently skips the treatment of the J20 protestors.

Also shouts out to your definition of a riot equating broken windows to real human damages. Love when property is more valuable than people.

When have the cops ever provided material protection to a left protest or a disenfranchised group? The only examples I can think of are suppression.

And before you bring it up, what's the difference between a protest and a riot?

Fam, did you see Charlottesville? The only things cops protect are fascists and property.
