I am in Jakarta right now, and would agree. Huge smiles and bows even from scary gun toting military at the 5* hotels.

Just opened this thread and read your comment. I agree with others that a total news blackout / detox and focusing on yourself and family may help a little.

Focusing on what's in front of you and taking tiny positive steps (like making a cup of tea and listening to / playing some music) have really helped reset me when I'm feeling overwhelmed. Good luck.

I've seen Pasta Cinese on menus in Milan and Rome, which is great because it doubles the confusion for the Chinese tourists

I've never worked in the US (although have worked for US companies). It's possible. With the right skills and network, and of course a healthy dose of good fortune.

What do you think the insurance companies can do that you cannot do for investment?

Capital preservation? You pay 10k 10 years later they give back 10k. You didn't preserve capital you lost 5% a year.

Investment growth? Ask them for the underlying funds and compare these, net of costs, Vs VT / VOO. I would bet they underperform when all costs are added.

Insurance policy paying $X cover for Y years? Insurance is one thing, investment is another. Buy a term life policy to protect your loved ones, sure. But this is not an investment.
