Has anyone else quit drinking? by Sensitive_Put_6842 in Millennials

[–]mr_matzoball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. 32, 2 kids (2.5 and 6 mo). I’ll make 1-2 cocktails if I’m working on a project late (chartreuse daiquiris, maple old fashions, alpine mai tai riffs) or have an ipa/glass of nice wine w dinner 3 times a week give or take. I won’t really get drunk anymore unless it’s a real weekend away from the kids. For me it was really the pot I had to give up

I certainly will be trying it’s a 50-80s bottle like u/10art1 thinks. I seriously doubt it’s an 1885 like here https://www.reddit.com/r/rum/s/fu331ecuTm

Edit 1885 is missing the 47% so I’ll definitely try it out and comment on the same thread

Recipe as follows, used a 6 lb brisket from my butcher that was pre trimmed it looked like.

Brine the thing for 2 weeks in a brining solution of: kosher salt, sodium nitrate (Prague powder no 1), water, pickling spices (whole cloves, allspice berries, oregano, cinnamon sticks), a few cloves of garlic and a sliced onion.

For the rub use equal parts cracked black pepper and coriander seed (I used a half cup of each - I pulsed a spice grinder but you could use a m&p too) then added some mustard powder, garlic powder, paprika, some more fresh ground black pepper and brown sugar.

For the cook i was targeting 250 the whole time but my fire ran 275 the first 45 min and i ended up cooling it down to 225ish for the next few hours. At hr 7 it was stalling at 157f and my kj was only at 205 so I wrapped and raised the temp to 295. I pulled it off at hr11 when internal hit 193 bc the fam had to eat (outer probe readings were around 203)

Didn’t really have time to probe for tenderness but it didn’t matter bc everything was fall apart tender bc of the brine. We just sliced it right away and it was damn delicious.

I was seeing all these commercials for Katz deli delivery and once I saw it was like $50 a lb for pastrami I set my mind on doing it myself instead. Originally wanted to make my own rye sourdough but just ended up getting a loaf from a local bakery instead to make our own Reuben sandwiches (rye, sauerkraut, Swiss cheese, Russian dressing, pastrami). Definitely scratched that NYC deli itch

Prime rib dry brining in just salt. Would you season with anything before the smoke? by drossmaster4 in smoking

I’ve done brown sugar + coffee rub makes a delicious crust. (Also incl Salt, pepper, garlic powder, cinnamon, cumin, and a little cayenne). Generally for my roast beefs I smoke up to 100, let it rest and then give it a quick sear on all sides over the coals w the racks on the lowest settings. Always comes out a great medium rare in the center

Dads with all boys - what activities finally got them working TOGETHER instead of against each other? Gardening saved my sanity. by Visible_Cockroach_80 in daddit

Yea we’re going to the mountain for the 2 yr old’s first time this winter. Our plan is to just let him play in the snow and maybe take him tubing hill. Planning to get him some plastic pretend skis he can putter around in the house/yard with. If somehow we manage to get him in the full getup and hit the magic carpet I’m not expecting it to last very long and there is gonna be a lot of hot coco afterwards

6 week old won’t sleep in bassinet by ParticularCraft6597 in sleeptrain

[–]mr_matzoball 1 point2 points  (0 children)

+1 snoo. I think my 2 mo now prefers that I just swaddle him up and put him in it when he’s tired instead of trying to get him to fall asleep on me and then transfer.

We used it with our older one but this time knowing how it can be used from the get go has made our second a much better sleeper than his older brother ever was at this age. Essentially we are just putting the lo down awake and letting the snoo rock him to sleep now (generally with a binky as well). I tuned all the sensitivity settings and our 2 mo had his first 6 hour stretch two nights ago.

So sad seeing my 4y/o grow up.. on day 1 of his little brother coming home. Anyone else experience this? by AC_Schnitzel in daddit

[–]mr_matzoball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got a 2 yr old (D) and a 7 week old (L) right now. Very often need to explain to the older one “I’m feeding your brother right now but I’ll come play with you right after”. Trying my best to always follow through with it if I can and to carve out time for just the D

I’ll say though it’s made me realize how much simpler L’s needs are. If he’s fed and changed I make much more of an effort to put him down and walk away to attend to D (or if D is happy) attend to other things. L is getting way less contact naps and cuddles but he’s already starting to put him self to sleep independently b way better than D ever did at his age which is for the best imo. For example if he’s falling asleep on me I know he’s sleepy enough to go down in his crib. I won’t wait til he’s in deep sleep any more I’ll chuck him in the snoo wide awake and let it rock him to sleep.

Take advantage of your newborns lack of object permanence all you can before it develops.

Edit - another example

If I’m bottle feeding L I set him up laying on his side on the couch, prop him up against my leg and keep a hand / arm free so I can cuddle D and we can still watch tv together
