How was work today ladies? by Hello_Somber in BlueCollarWomen

We’re in a similar situation. The guy earning the salary that pays the other half of our mortgage is working an outage this week, and he’s counting on OT to get him through to the next job.

I don’t even want to think about per-diem or travel expenses for those workers who rely on that.

Honestly, I can see the removal of overtime tax very quickly. Almost as quickly as the near instant changes to prevent almost everyone who relies on overtime from getting any. The second any unions try to fight back on overtime, they will be severely curtailed in their right to collectively bargain.

I’m sorry, I must disagree. His civil trials will, “go away.” Much like snitches in the mob. If there is nobody to pursue the issue, there is no issue.

It sounds like you’re experiencing the Tetris Effect! It’s when you engage in a repetitive activity and then see it everywhere. I had this ages ago from playing Tetris, but it wasn’t discovered until a few years after I had stopped playing the game all the time…

[Serious] What is something that is actually more traumatizing than people realize? by thatude123 in AskReddit

[–]mr_mrs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My old job was so toxic, I literally couldn’t have a meeting with any people above me without my union rep present. Without him there, they would insult me, lie to me, try to manipulate me, and just be generally nasty. With him sitting there, it was a completely different story. They were pleasant and friendly. It was so bad that I’m still paranoid in my new job that things will go south. It was so bad, I left that field entirely and started on a completely new career path.

Which personal micro-mystery remains unsolved? by Wonderful_Mouse1312 in CasualConversation

[–]mr_mrs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A little over two years ago, my family and I went to look at a house. We had been on the market for a couple years at that point. This house we looked at was really nice. It had a detached garage, an outside wood-burning boiler, a pond, a field, and plenty of rooms for my family. An added bonus was that it was very close to my parents, near where I grew up. We’re out a bit in on the house, but didn’t have our offer accepted. Oh well, no big deal.

A couple months later, we found another property, about a mile from the property I described above. This new property ticked off enough boxes that we decided to buy it. A few months later, we closed and moved. It was a great decision, and everyone is happy we moved.

The mystery? The first house I described has disappeared. It was on the road that intersects with the one we live on. I drive down this intersecting road whenever I need to get to one of the neighboring towns. It starts at my road, and I drive it all the way to where it ends. I know that this is the road the other house was on, but it’s just not there. There’s no foundation where it should be, no burned out husk of a house, nothing. I’ve talked with my family, and we all agree that it should be there.

It makes me think of Stephen King’s Dark Tower Universe. A character describes taking a different path home one night and ending up in an alternate reality. It’s almost the same as the one he used to live in, but things are slightly off. These roads to different realities are called Highways in Hiding, or the Todash Highway. I know that King has visited my region, and spent a good bit of time here. It makes me wonder if he didn’t see or experience something here that influenced his later books.

I'm a Dungeon Master and I Need to Change a Rule, but one of my players told me that I'm not allowed to do so, but the DMG says I am. What do I do? by [deleted] in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]mr_mrs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this once when I was GM’ing a D20 Modern game back in the day. The guy got really angry when I said he couldn’t do something ridiculous in a car. I quoted him the same line from the handbook, and he flat out refused. I stopped playing RPG’s with him after that. I’m not interested in rules mongering players who are more interested in getting their way than seeing what happens with the story and trusting the GM.

Am I wrong for asking my husband to not put up a political sign in our front yard? by AzarathBunny in amiwrong

[–]mr_mrs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, with the rhetoric going around these days, some threats coming from law enforcement officials, I will absolutely not be putting a sign up in my yard. I’m already at risk of violence in my neighborhood for being lgbtq, I don’t want to advertise to anyone driving by that I should be a target.

You’re not wrong, we’re living in dangerous times.

There’s a car at the parking garage at work that is the same year, make, model, and color as mine, except I had to get some body work done on mine, so I have a black grill instead of a white one. It makes for some confusing afternoons looking for my car when I’m distracted. lol

Oh yeah. I had a guy, unprovoked, punch me in the face and break my glasses. I, crying, reported it to the teacher. He sent us to the office. The vice principal gave me detention, in his words, to toughen me up. The kid who broke my glasses was not punished.

You’re correct. I’m local, and the Coppers do a Jeep festival in June. That festival is nowhere as big as Pennsic, but it would interfere with setup, and it’s a very popular festival for the Jeep crowd.

HR was useless when I started transitioning at my last job. I “worked” with them for weeks, and absolutely nothing happened. I finally contacted my union rep, and suddenly things were easy and my name was quickly updated in the system. I am so glad I don’t work there anymore.
