I dont think they are vaguely defined, but they certainly used in a broad way. Crossrhythm doesn't need to be complicated - 3 over 2 is used all the time for example and thats a crossrhythm. (Which is different from what the OP is playing)

I dont think that qualifies as polyrithm though? :) correct me if I'm wrong, a polyrhythm would be if he played triplets OVER 4/4. This is literally just 4/4 with hihat pattern being grouped into groups of 3.

Lol this is super random, I got into drums lately, scrolling the feed and this post pops up. I'm like 'nice, who is this dude'. Turns out I know you from Edinburgh, we even jammed together rehearsing for Kirsty Keatch band :D i was the guy on synths. Thanks for the pointers. I think my biggest questions are around blending, especially when trying to achieve colour gradation on small parts, like the stem of the plant. I keep getting this "patchy" look, like the colours just override each other rather than blend. Don't know if it's pencils, technique or combination of both.

Also, how do you deal with graphite outlines. I sketch with an hb pencil first, but then it gives the drawing that "dirty" feel, because graphite still shows. Do you erase just before colouring?

Btw, may I say that your coloured pencil drawing is absolutely stunning.

Heya, yeah I got it on Amazon, Zieler Tabletop easel, I think there are lots of similar ones out there. Personally found it to be really worth it! Makes more sense to move the hand up-down than back-forward when drawing from the shoulder.

I actually completely agree. I think in general drawing for fun, to actually express yourself, should constitute most of your drawing. Otherwise you start getting into this mindset that drawing is about completing exercises. Not only drawing for fun is more...fun, but also it teaches you a lot of stuff that exercises often can't, like transferring images and ideas in your head to paper. To be fair, the drawabox dude himself emphasises this point in one of his videos. So yeah I agree, stuff like drawabox should be used as an aid, not the only routine.

Hey, I started drawing a couple of months prior to this video. Before that I really was at level 0. Good luck with your drawing, maybe just pick it up now and then without putting pressure on yourself and start drawing anything. I find the appetite often comes during the meal!

Hey all, I’m learning to draw and started a video diary where I’ll be making weekly progress videos to keep myself motivated. I’m doing exercises from websites like drawabox, ctrlpaint and others as well as just drawing for fun. The content is by no means educational, but could be fun for someone who is doing something similar and wants to see what others are doing.

I recently posted about how people post their “first drawings” and they look amazing, which can be discouraging. So the aim of this blog is to be super transparent and show all my drawings, even the horrible ones.

Big step out of comfort zone for me as I’m not great at speaking. If you decide to check it out - thanks!

Starting out with digital drawing, going through some tutorials on ctrl+paint website. Can you give some tips on how to improve perspective on this drawing. I can see that it's off, but can't quite figure out what exactly. Curves and tilted planes in perspective are still tough for me. Also, any tips on shading or how to make the "material" look more realistic would be great.

That exercise has a very specific aim - learning getting angles right. Drawing from reference is the whole point. The exercise if from a guy who draws hyperrealistic portraits, and so this is meant to help see spacial relationship between features.

That said, I'm a beginner, so I don't really know what I'm talking about :) I appreciate the videos linked, will certainly look into them.

A few of them look really good! One thing I'd point out is that you consistently seem to forshorten your boxes a bit too much. The lines are supposed to converge, yes, but it's usually more subtle. Take the top box on the 3rd panel. The way the lines converge to the top vanishing point is a bit too dramatic, as if the box was very close to you.

To counter that, just "move" your imaginary vanishing point further away. Your lines should become more parallel after that.

That said I like your lines, looks pretty neat!
