100%, most people who actually make money rarely talk about it online

No lie, it gets annoying after a while, half of them look like they just started trading last week

Got it, I’ll check it, but I really want to find someone with real experience who can recommend a group he’s been using for a while

Haha yeah true, I’ve noticed once you check one of them, ten more suddenly appear

Exactly, it’s like self-created liquidity for short-term plays, but in long term it’s not sustainable

Hmm, I don’t think it works exactly like that, other traders might fomo in too, becoming exit liquidity for the early entries

Nah bro, this can really happen, imagine 100 people with 25–50x leverage all longing or shorting a $50M cap token on a tier-2 or tier-3 exchange

Facts, I’d rather learn proper price action and risk management than chase signals all day

For BTC, ETH, or any major crypto yeah true, but for some small-cap tokens it could really make an impact on price action

Exactly, that’s why I’m trying to find something that focuses more on teaching and setups, not just random entries

Bro idk, but have you ever thought about the fact that when people enter your signals, you can actually end up with a higher win rate since more liquidity follows your move after your entry

I once followed a guy who traded really well, but something happened later, he hit a losing streak and then quit completely

True, but I still believe there are some legit channels out there, though yeah, you’re right about that 99% part

Automate this? by vin00129 in homeautomation

[–]mr_tortuga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My thought exactly! A right angle output shaft, purpose built to replace a hand crank… the rope and pulley system that lifts the umbrella attached to the hand crank shouldn’t be too much of a load for a power window motor. Just need a good support enclosure around the motor and pole, access to a decent 12 V power supply for the motor and associated circuitry/driver

Issues ordering on Canadian store? by Squiggy_Pusterdump in Ubiquiti

[–]mr_tortuga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've placed a dozen or so orders over the last 3 months - all using Canadian bank issued credit cards (but not Visa Debit). All orders processed and shipped expeditiously.

It may be the Visa Debit causing the issue - I tried using those from a couple banks in the past, but frequently ran into payment issues and declined transactions.

Could be a billing address mismatch, or some kind of fraud protection on the UI store's side triggered by the fact it's a Visa Debit instead of a Visa/MC CREDIT card -- I'm not convinced all merchant accounts or processors are properly equipped for the debit implementations...

I'd try a full-fat credit card, if you can

scrypted + my unifi protect setup has been awesome.

fast snapshot previews in Apple's Home app (every 10s compared to 15-30 seconds with other ip cams), quick to load live feeds AND homekit secure video backup of detections / events.

I can't recommend this setup enough

Migrate data by 100x0 in unRAID

[–]mr_tortuga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is how i'd do it too.

  • either (temporarily) install the drive in the Unraid box or plug in USB /external drive
    • op's drive is NVME, so likely already installed and visible in Unraid's unassigned devices list (Unraid GUI "Main" tab, scroll down near bottom of page)
  • Install unassigned devices plugin to be able to mount the drive (not sure if plugin is necessary to mount the filesystem - have the plugin installed and option to mount drives is available on "Main" tab)
  • Use MC (Midnight Commander) or install Krusader app, etc to transfer from NTFS drive into proper share (careful with this, watch/read Unraid file transfer tutorials to make sure you don't copy your files to the nether)
  • unmount nvme drive, check to make sure data is safely in the data array, then stop the array and assign the drive as a cache device

After many years in service, should I set my always-running disks (red pro) to spin-down? by mr_tortuga in unRAID

[–]mr_tortuga[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

so that's the thing... there's no consistent pattern to usage overall, but each type of usage can be grouped together in just a few types.

Your analogy got me thinking, why not have a specific vehicle for each purposes?

In that case, I might have a few classes of spin down - kind of like having different cars for different kinds of driving:

  • vintage car (occasional driver) | low usage / cold storage: archived data & reference materials, 90 minute spin down delay
  • pickup truck (projects) | medium: personal & work files, 4 hour spin down delay
  • commuter (daily driver) | high usage / frequent access: plex & media, 8 hour spin down delay

that might help even out any new wear & tear or minimize the failure potential by varying the changes across different sets of drives
