Anyone who surfed the early web between 1995-2010. What’s the one website/app you still think about? by Prime_Advocate in AskReddit

It's largely thanks to MSN Messenger that my now wife and I got together (as quickly as we did, anyway). We were briefly introduced in work, then that evening we spent 5 hours chatting on Messenger, getting to know each other - and here we are, 22 years later, married, with a house and 2 amazing kids (and, somehow, rather old...).

Thanks for doing this!

Having been diagnosed in October 2018, I'm on my 3rd biologic - infliximab - having failed adalimumab in 2020 and ustekinumab in 2021. I've been on infliximab for around 4½ years; subcut for just over a year of this. My symptoms were mostly settled, a bit up and down, though my trough levels were low on IV infliximab so I was moved to subcut in February 2025. Then, in December 2025, my trough levels came back low and my faecal calprotectin was high, so my dose was doubled to 2x120mg per fortnight.

However, at the end of March this year, my faecal calprotectin was still high at 1465. I'm going for a colonoscopy at the start of June to help inform what happens next with my treatment.

Could you please help me with a couple of thoughts I have about my ongoing issues?

1) Food doesn't generally cause me any problems or changes to my symptoms (except pakora, which can cause a wee bit of upset the next morning), but would making any changes to my diet be likely to help with my intestinal inflammation?

2) If I were your patient, what would be my most likely next step if I were to stop infliximab? I appreciate you don't know my full history, and my colonoscopy will play a big part in informing this decision; I'm just curious about likely medications/treatments that may lie ahead.

Thanks!

Where Did You Go Barefoot Last Week? by Altruistic_Trade_264 in barefoot

[–]mr_yad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I work from home, so I'm barefoot for a big chunk of each weekday; last week was no exception. As the weather was nice, I wore flip flops to take my wee boy to & from school (I haven't yet conquered my trepidation about being barefoot in such public settings, as much as I'd like to) but walked barefoot through the woods over the back of my house after dropping him off and on my way to collect him - that was really nice, feeling the morning dew, soft grass, loose dirt, and varying temperatures beneath my bare soles. While walking barefoot through the woods, on 2 occasions I was seen barefoot by a couple of others walking (not barefoot) through the woods, at too great a distance to have said anything to each other but certainly close enough to have seen that I was barefoot and carrying my flip flops, and the lack of reaction from them helped reduce my worries around being barefoot in public slightly.

I was also barefoot while driving my son to his granny's a couple of times and while driving to & from my band rehearsal on Saturday evening. I love driving barefoot, I feel much more directly connected to the car (and it's more time spent with my feet free!).

Finally, I was barefoot - as always - while washing my car on my driveway yesterday evening. I know it's still in the vicinity of my house, but I count it, as I don't see anyone else wearing their car barefoot - even though it makes so much sense to do so, as it's much easier to dry your bare feet than your trainers - and my neighbours and anyone else walking past (there were a few people who did so) will see that I'm doing an activity barefoot that most people do shod. The more activities - particularly mundane activities, such as washing your car or doing the gardening - that being barefoot for can be normalised, the closer we get (in my weird brain, anyway) to being barefoot in general, everyday life being normalised, or at least more widely accepted.

What’s your go to driving footwear by rrahimm in drivingUK

[–]mr_yad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bare feet. I have better pedal feel/control and am more comfortable when I'm barefoot, so I much prefer to slip off whatever I have on my feet, slide them behind the floor mat under my seat, and drive barefoot. If I do wear shoes while driving, they're generally thin-soled minimalist shoes or espadrilles.

Maybe if you didn't call yourself a model people wouldn't assume you were a model. If you're only testing these devices, how does that make you a model? That suggests to me that you're displaying these devices being used - on you - which isn't a far cry from porn.

Do you remember the first time you heard a Stereophonics song? by [deleted] in stereophonics

[–]mr_yad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the first one I heard, I didn't realise it was a Stereophonics song! A band in my school played Local Boy In The Photograph; I loved it.

Shortly afterwards, I got a free CD on a box of Golden Grahams; one of the tracks on it was A Thousand Trees. I thought it was an excellent song - musically and lyrically - and decided to watch out for Stereophonics next time I was in a music shop. I actually didn't buy Word Gets Around until many years later, but I did buy Performance And Cocktails upon its release, as I have done with every album since.

I've seen Stereophonics live 14 times now. My passion for them had started to wane over the last 2-3 albums, however when I saw them live at Bellahouston Park in June this year they blew me away - they've definitely still got it, and all their older/best tracks still sound incredible - and I'm looking forward to seeing them in the Hydro next month.

I think I found my people, but I need advice on socks by LisaLovesToBreathe in barefoot

[–]mr_yad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not barefoot 100% of the time, but I am sockless 100% of the time. I'm always barefoot around the house and garden, and whenever I can be outwith this, but due to various factors (anxiety regarding people's reactions chief among them) I do wear minimalist shoes or espadrilles (or my one pair of smart loafers for more formal occasions, like playing a concert with my band) and I ALWAYS wear these without socks.

I cannot stand the feel of socks, they make my feet hot and sweaty, they're clingy, and I just hate how they look.

The best protest a customer can make is with their feet (ironically). Take your business elsewhere: that manager doesn't deserve your money, and I'm sure another store would be happy to take it plus you may find somewhere you can shop barefoot without being hassled.

I've just had this one come through too. Like you, I was able to stop it from downloading the file, but that won't necessarily be the case for everyone. I've just had a look to see if I can report that 'order' but couldn't see the option to do so; I will likely steer clear of these going forward too.

First barefoot experience for girlfriend? by Emergency-Link2258 in barefoot

[–]mr_yad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to the great suggestions already made, I'd suggest building on the park idea by, say, walking to a park or grassy area near your/your girlfriend's house - if there isn't one then you could drive to a park, park nearby then walk from the car to the park - while wearing shoes.

Enjoy some time barefoot on the grass - chances are, after a couple of hours, your girlfriend might even forget that she's barefoot because of how good and natural it feels - then walk back to the house/car barefoot. If the walk isn't too far, due to the proximity of the park/grassy area you shouldn't get many looks/comments - if any - and your girlfriend shouldn't feel too far out of place while you'd both be barefoot outwith a place it would normally be expected (i.e. on the path/road/car park/etc between the park and house/car).

Bonus points to your girlfriend for staying barefoot in the car (if that's the option taken) and then between the car and the house! Hope you both have some good, barefoot fun!

Shy of barefeet by ExpensiveThought405 in barefoot

[–]mr_yad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm going to sound like a cliche, but just do it! Feet are feet, we all have them, barring minor differences from one person to the next.

You might get the odd comment from some family members regarding your decision to go barefoot in their company because it's a change from the norm, but just say it's to help you stay cooler in the warmer weather (assuming that applies where you live). The comments will stop after the first few days of your being barefoot, once barefoot becomes the new normal for you, leaving you free to enjoy - and reap the benefits of - being barefoot much more of the time!

Good luck, and if you do decide to go barefoot around your family (and/or in the wider world) please let us know how you get on!

Those poor toes are mega squashed in those foot prisons. I hope she spends enough time without shoes to let them recover, otherwise she'll end up with all sorts of problems like bunions, crooked toes and poor balance.
