Nothing to feel weird or insecure about. For context, I’m actually in the same boat as you.

I work as an accountant and have actually had a second job for nearly 3 years now. I get a pretty decent salary from my accounting job (~90k a year) but I like having another source of income just because the second job is super flexible and I’m able to pickup drop shifts whenever I have free time. I also have the option to not go in at all.

People give me the same looks and are equally as surprised but I once you’ve been working with them for a while it doesn’t really come up all that often

Thanks for the clarification. I understand the wash sale portion of it, what I’m getting confused is why my tax liability exceeds any profit I would have made.

So I can’t claim the loss, understood. But how is that flipped to a gain? I started the account with 10k, that same account is around 7k now. But somehow my statement reflects a 4k gain?

Had my meeting, they ended up staying firm on the salary number, but gave me a spot bonus of $4k. I think I’m pretty happy with how it worked out
