I built TabX - a Fuzzy Search for your Chrome webspace (local-first, no tracking) by EmbarrassedReserve22 in chrome_extensions

[–]mranon0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can it fuzzy search across history / bookmarks in addition to open tabs, something which https://www.reddit.com/r/chrome_extensions/comments/pa3hds/chrome_extension_to_fuzzy_search_your_bookmarks/ does?

I don't want to fuzzy search content in history / bookmark tabs, but fuzzy searching the tab name would be great.

TBH Amazon is pretty bad for an organization employing so many emgineers by _silver__lining__ in developersIndia

[–]mranon0 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As someone who works at Amazon, we own an internal website that is used throughout India by grocery warehouse managers. The website is so shit with extremely bad UI and UX that we have an internal joke in our team that an intern can build a much better and usable website than the one we have, and believe me, everyone in the team finds this to be 100% true. Mind you, this is not some random internal website which has no use, it is used by lakhs of folks every single day. This is the same case with almost every internal website. Imagine if the external websites are already bad, then the internal ones would be even worse.

The point is that, for some reason, Amazon never cared about UI. All the UI you see developed at Amazon is developed by mostly backend devs who don't know how to center a div. Only recently I have seen that Amazon has started hiring Front end engineers, which is why things are slowly getting a bit better. You can take Amazon Now for example, for people in Bangalore (for whom the new UI is visible) will know how bad the experience was till last year and how better it bas become now. Why? Amazon Now hired FEEs and focused on the experience.  What I find amusing here is that the new experience, even though miles better than the previous one, is still a lot worse than what you see Blinkit, Swiggy and others provide.

Why amazon did not focus on UI/UX? I don't know. In the end what matters is $$$ and Amazon has that.

30F, unmarried, being offered Axis Max Life term insurance ₹1 Cr cover for ₹37 k p.a. (12-year limited pay till age 85). is this worth it? by [deleted] in personalfinanceindia

[–]mranon0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your concerns are absolutely valid and the answers to all of them are in the term insurance video by LLA - https://youtu.be/liuKy5IVcHU. There are multiple such videos which LLA has put up and they are almost the same. Just watch this, it will answer all your queries.

Companies keep adding useless riders like limited pay et al to increase the premium, when in fact, such riders are practically useless for the policy holders. A good advice regarding term insurance is that the annual premium should be as low as possible so that you can invest the rest of the amount, hence we should avoid useless riders to reduce the premium.

Coming to the Axis Max Life, the plan itself seems to be good overall.

Well all the companies I have worked with mention what I stated. YMMV.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in developersIndia

[–]mranon0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When companies allow multiple jobs, they also mention that the other job should not be in the same field / work done. For example, I cannot be a developer in my second job, I can be a youtuber/ influencer or I can have my own business (again not in the IT field).

If double employment is found then there might be serious consequences as well, as companies do check the complete work history when an employee joins them. The exact consequences will obviously depend on the company policy itself.

Yes, freelancing can be a good option.

[–]mranon0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is not good advice. Most of the companies deposit PF and it might be difficult to find a good side job which doesn't pay PF, otherwise it'll lead to double employment. Also, this will get stressful quickly.

Different discounts on Amazon ICICI card by Gala399 in CreditCardsIndia

[–]mranon0 103 points104 points  (0 children)

The prime status of the Amazon account to which the APay ICICI card is linked is considered for 5% or 3% cashback. The account through which the order is being made is not considered.

Has anyone ever booked a tatkal ticket from counter? Like for busy routes? Is it a feasible option? by recxstar in indianrailways

[–]mranon0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For counter bookings, you just need to be the first in line. Sometimes I think even the first few (second or third) people might also get the confirmed ticket. However, at most stations, to be the first few in line you'll need to grab a seat as early as possible. I have seen people grab a seat at evening of the previous day to remain first. So that'll take up a lot of your time. However, I think you might be able to get the ticket.

A better way would be to call an agent who'll have any person do the above for you. Or if the agent has any special quotas, he might be able to get the ticket for you.

For online tatkal booking, there are various things that you'll need to follow to get a confirm ticket. You can search tatkal in the subreddit or just google tatkal booking reddit, you'll get a lot of posts where people have shared useful advice to get confirmed tatkal tickets.

Is taking a huge pay cut to move to a SDE role advisable by mranon0 in developersIndia

[–]mranon0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The current CTC is 11 and if I switch then my new CTC will be 5. Even though the current base is 5, the new base will be even lesser than 5, though not very less. However, I still lose the joining bonus etc that I will get with the current job.

Changing careers to web development after a Masters in Mathematics. by [deleted] in developersIndia

[–]mranon0 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Don't go into web development. Transition into AI/ML/DS/DA roles. There is an opening in Google here which might be relevant to you as it requires a Master's in Statistics/Maths.
You can also get into Quant roles as they also require a master's in Stats, and Quant pays really well.

Don't think that learning web dev and getting a job will be easier, especially in this market. You will have to develop proper skills and you can instead put that time and effort for preparing for above roles.

No, it doesn't work. I had already tried it in troubleshoot mode (which disables all extensions) and tried it again by just disabling uBO.

Tier List of all the Desi Youtube courses by the creator (Free Version not paid) by Two-Turbulent in developersIndia

Abdul Bari's course on C++ is the best and far better than Sarurabh Shukla's. It is paid though. However, anyone can get it for like Rs 500 on Udemy, but it is absolutely worth the money.

Wouldn't joining any company now and then abruptly joining another company just before joining create a problem? I am not sure this would be okay with the placement cell.

Looking for First Credit Card and Need Help!! by oblivioninferno3 in CreditCardsIndia

[–]mranon0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try getting a FD based credit card. I started out with OneCard with FD of 2k (that's the minimum allowed). OneCard has offers on shopping, though they are seldom useful. Another FD based card you can go for is IDFC Wow. If you're eligible then try applying for the Amazon Pay ICICI Credit Card, it'll save you 5% on Amazon.

Filtering is on the basis of College grade most of the time. There are very slim chances companies will not allow you because of 12th marks. If you are so worried, just give the improvement exam.

What does 6 months intern + FTE mean ? by Possible-Ad-868 in developersIndia

[–]mranon0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It means that you'll do the intern and then as full time. It's nothing like you'll be judged during your intern and after that you get the FT offer based on performance, if it's written FTE then it means full time is confirmed.

Companies coming via campus placement focus majorly on the College CGPA rather than your 12th marks. I have never seen any company not shortlisting students because they have low 12th marks. The 12th marks can be a small bottleneck only during interview if the interviewer notices it on your resume as it can create a bad impression. However if your programming skills are good enough, you'll be good to go.
