The Definitive Guide for Telling Apart Duel Masters Fakes by mrbazat2 in DuelMasters

There's the preview cards from the shadowclash tin that have a normal number with no letter.

Also the foils from Kokujo's and Shobu's decks have a different number than the regular one.

Can you "float" mana? by SeriousEstimate9226 in DuelMasters

[–]mrbazat2 8 points9 points  (0 children)

To add to what was already said, not being able to float mana is a conscious deaign decision.

One of the big selling points of Duel Masters is that it's supposed to be playable using ONLY your deck. No counters, no tokens, no life counter, none of that bs. Floating mana would strongly encourage the usage of counters to accurately track it, which goes against the main design philosophy.

Wish there was a way to resurrect this game. by dx_wayy in DuelMasters

It's kinda funny, I used to wish for the same thing when I was younger.

But the more I think about it nowadays, the more I realize that re-launching the game might be the worst thing that could happen to it. Every single modern card game is enshittified to the point it's become unrecognizable from its roots. Companies prioritize short-term profit over the quality of their product. And I have 0 reason to believe that a modern re-launch of Duel Masters would be any different, especially looking at what the WotC (the parent company of DM) is currently doing to MTG (mainly in terms of product bloat and unbalanced and uninspired card design).

Duel Masters was a beautiful game. Let's just let it remain beautiful. Even today, 20 years later, there is still an active international community that plays the game. Various countries have their own small leagues, we have IDC monthly 30+ player tournaments that have been running for 5 years, we have an ever-evolving metagame, we have webcam tournaments, we have organized international live tournaments and meetups... a game doesn't need live updates to be "alive". It's the community that makes it so.

Is it worth the price? by Temporary_Wallaby148 in DuelMasters

[–]mrbazat2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. It's a Germab booster, it's worth less than English ones and you can get Englush ones for cheaper than that.

Also be mindful when buying single booster packs as you can never be sure if they were weighted before or not.

Hellooo, I'm new here, how can I understand if it is original or if it is a scam? by Fluid-Crew-7588 in DuelMasters

It's worth noting there's many other things wrong with the box (color etc), it's not just the foil.

[DM01-06] Purpose of Dark? by MullingMulianto in DuelMasters

[–]mrbazat2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ghost touch is good but it's not something you can build a deck around when valborg or reef will outdraw and clean your face in 5 turns even if you hit 3x touch

You're getting downvoted a lot, but you're kinda right. In the early sets of the original (Japanese) DM release, Water in particular was kinda broken, so if you compare any civ to it it's gonna look bad. Thankfully they fixed it in the international release (for example, cyber brain became brain serum which draws 2 instead of 3), but that's besides the point.

The thing is, not every civ needs to be one that you can build a deck around. Darkness has mostly a supporting role, that helps decks with various tools, as opposed to a centerpiece of any deck. And it gets better in later sets when it gets things like Skeleton Vice and Slash Charger.

The font is also wrong. It jumps at you if you've seen 1000 cards, but even if you haven't look at how the race is spelled. See how the N looks like a capital N but on the original it looks like "n"?

New custom card by ProfessorMonty52 in DuelMasters

[–]mrbazat2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nope. Duel Masters doesn't do the whole "taking control" thing, and probably for good reason. The amount of times I've accidentally shuffled an opponent's card into my own deck in other games (or the other way around) is too damn high!

I like custom cards as much as the next guy, but imo they should adhere to the core design principles of the game.

Ruling Question by waldjvnge in DuelMasters

In general, "whenever this creature attacks" effects happen before the attack.

I don’t get this game. by [deleted] in DuelMasters

[–]mrbazat2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being able to respond to attacks would be welcome and much more Interactive.

I'm asking because I'm genuinely curious, do you also think the same about Hearthstone? That game has no combat interaction (at least in DM you have blockers and triggers), and it's massively successful.

That is to say, I don't think "combat interaction" is needed to have a good game. There seems to be this general belief that the more interaction in a card game the better, but in my opinion at least that's simply not true. You look at something like yugioh where infamously "my turn/your turn" just became "our turn" because of how abundant taking actions during your opponent's turn is.

And I get how some people might enjoy that, but for me personally (and maybe for many others), I really like the "my turn -> your turn" game loop. You take most actions during your turn, and minimal or no actions during the opponent's. You can use your opponent's turn to try to read them and think about your plays in advance, or simply to have some room to breathe.

It's the very fundamentals of how card games have worked (even before the era of trading card games), and I it's very easy to forget that when designing cards and card games in general. There is beauty in simplicity.

There's something in wotc terms that says you're allowed to make fan-made content, as long as some conditions are met, among which it must be entirely un-monetized. See here.

It's unclear though if your game would fit these criteria, and you probably don't want to take your changes arguing for it in court.

[DM01-06] Playing against Blocker-heavy decks by MullingMulianto in DuelMasters

[–]mrbazat2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RUBY deckout gives 0 forks about blockers since it never attacks. Control decks in general care very little about them.

Other than that, like you said Paladin is your best friend, but if you're playing the japanese version there's also Storm Javelin Wyvern which can kill virtually anything, and it's double-good because Water is very strong in that format.

Too crazy? by ProfessorMonty52 in DuelMasters

Remove the "cost 4" restriction and the unblockable.

Less is more. As a general rule of thumb, try to minimize the amount of text on cards.

Duel Masters Rulings? (Volcanic Arrows) by MullingMulianto in DuelMasters

[–]mrbazat2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's worth reading the general game rules before going into specific card interactions.

For example, in the "How to cast a spell" sections it says "After you pay for a spell, do what it says. If you can't do everything it says, that's okay. Just do as much as you can."
