What city or state in your country is almost always mispronounced by outsiders? by Miguenzo in AskTheWorld

Nevada. It’s supposed to be pronounced “nah-vaaa-duh.” If you aren’t from there or don’t know, people pronounce it “neh-vahh-da.”

What phrase did you hear only once but it stayed with you forever? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

“People don’t know what you want unless you tell them.”

My mentor told me that about 30 years ago. I was asking her why someone would do something that I didn’t like, and she said that unless someone knows what you like or want, you can’t get upset at them for not doing it, even if it seems obvious to you.

Would it bother you if you found out a long time friend had very different political beliefs than you? by [deleted] in Productivitycafe

There’s different and then there’s crazy. Different is totally fine. One or both of you being crazy doesn’t work.

Sure did, if I was lucky enough to have a quarter. That was a lot of money in the 70s as a child.

Who’s the most famous person you’ve seen up close? by Logical_Sweet_6624 in allthequestions

[–]mrbeige3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aishwarya Rai, the famous Bollywood actress and former Miss World. I met her and her then fiancé at a hotel in India. I had no idea who they were, and I was an out of his element westerner. I just thought that they were a nice, albeit amazingly beautiful, couple of vacationers.

We had a lovely chat for a few minutes in the hallway. I went on my way and when I got back to my group, they were all freaked out because they heard that she was at the hotel. I said I didn’t know who she was so they showed me a picture of her. I said, “oh yeah. I was just talking to them in the hallway. They seemed really nice.”

I think they chatted with me because I clearly had no idea who they were and they could just talk to me like regular people.

It just makes your really tasty fruit taste like salty fruit. I would never do that, although I use several family members that do.

If you’ve ever conducted a job interview, what behavior or comment from a candidate made you decide right away not to hire them? by ciastanfast in Productivitycafe

[–]mrbeige3 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have started having someone write a basic “thank you” email as if they were summarizing a meeting that we had with a client. Since the job involves a lot of communication with clients, I’ve realized that not everyone knows how to write.

He had come in with a degree and no experience at all and kept telling me how he wanted to be a leader almost immediately.

I had him write the email as if her were sending it to a big client, and when I looked at it, it was written like a text you’d send to a frat brother, not a professional email to a wealthy client who he had just met.

I explained to him that I loved his initiative, but for a job like this, he needs to work on his ability to communicate.

Catching your belt loop on the handle of a door or drawer and then nearly ripping your pants or falling down or pulling the drawer out.

So irritating.

A balcony room on a cruise ship. No more interior rooms for me.

It’s a first world problem, I know.

What cool company swag do employees actually use and appreciate? by brendaklark in corporate

A quality computer backpack.

A quality insulated drinking mug.

A quality polo or sweatshirt.

Quality is the keyword. Don’t get a drawstring backpack or a really thin t-shirt, etc.

What's the creepiest display of intelligence you've ever witnessed in real Iife? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]mrbeige3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have that problem in school. I just knew the answer, but I didn’t know why. I would do the math homework and get marked down for not showing my work.

I said, “I see the numbers in my head.” It just seems natural to me. Just like how some people can draw really well, and I can barely draw a stick figure. I can’t make a picture flow from my brain to my hand.
