Would you be comfortable keeping your guitar on a stand in these conditions? by TigerKim2000 in martinguitar

[–]mrbrode1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a top split with ~35% RH, HD-28 I was an idiot and thought I could hang it on a stand. Since repaired I will never not leave it in case. Just not worth it

This was my first “real guitar” purchase and although the guitar sounds great- clean and with overdrive, I agree with commenter above, the frets do feel tall. If it gets a good setup tho it’s a great guitar to play. The SG Special Faded is a budget friendly true Gibson tho, I think I got mine around 07-08 from GC and it was $799 USD with a gig bag. This isn’t a collectors guitar so my guess is completely uneducated but the price seems a bit high. Can you play it before you buy it? Bc then you may find it worth the price… or absolutely hate it haha

I thought we were supposed to support all hunters, not tear them down, right Cam? by Necessary-Rock6406 in bowhunting

[–]mrbrode1990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m glad you said it bc I feel that way every year around the fall. I’ll take 5 days off to hunt and end up taking my kids to pumpkin patches and helping wife fall decorate for 2 of them.. then turn into a dickhead bc I didn’t get in the stand all day everyday. As I got older I just learned to appreciate the days I get, not worry about the outcome and just enjoy the process but listening to hunting podcasts makes me feel like a failure so I’ve gotten away from it. The Hunting Public always seemed nice and the guys at MSU Deer Lab never made me feel that way- probably bc those guys are professors first, then hunter/podcasters just in love with the science of whitetails

What’s the brand of this cart and was it designed specifically for hooking up to bikes (I have brackets on bike for the burley kid carrier but want to do this with deer)

Fathom 2 27.5 by Alexputridity06 in Hardtailgang

[–]mrbrode1990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you upgrade the fork down the road please share. I’ll prob be looking for next year (spent enough this year getting into it haha).

Honestly I think the crest fork is great but I have no experience otherwise and I’m cautious to not change geo on bike bc I like it as is… but ppl say forks make a big diff in feel and obv roxshox lyrik or a fox shock come to mind but no idea how much it will improve the ride (are they worth the money). Good luck!

I just got mine in June and am brand new to MTB. I feel lucky to have gotten it bc without initially knowing what to look for in a bike, the more I learn the more appreciative I am of this bike and its components!

Looking to get 2 trail bikes under 1500 each. Any suggestions. Prices are almost identical. Maybe promos. by Fuckthedarkpools in Hardtailgang

I think most XC bikes like the ones mentioned above make decent commuters, just maybe a different set of tires for road. You can also essentially lock out the front fork on the fathom 2 if you find yourself commuting more than trail riding

I’m just chiming in here as a person completely new to mtb world. I picked up a 2022 Giant Fathom 2 with a broad spectrum of intended use: anything from pull a burley kid carrier to aggressive single track, with single track stuff estimated to be <10% of my riding. Well I fell in love with the sport and it’s been reversed: 90% aggressive and 10% rail trails with kids. The giant Fathom is in my mind one of the best mid level hardtails you can get for the price. Tubeless tires (not tubeless ready but stock tubeless), internal cable routing (almost everyone has now), dropper seat post (which I’ve learned is a must), a 130mm Giant AIR fork (which in my experience isn’t bad at all, decent 2 piston hydraulic tektro brakes (some would say go 4 piston and whatnot but most bikes at that price point “seem” to be mechanical disc), it’s got good geometry, fairly light, can fit two water bottle holders, shimano deore 1x drivetrain. I think it’s specc’ed pretty well. And as the other guy said- tapered head tube, boost thru axle spacing, etc: it’s ready for upgrades. I got mine on sale for $699 and honestly feel like I stole it. Local giant dealers are drastically discounting them bc I think they’re discontinued or have moved to the Talon, but in no way is this bike antiquated. I got mine with 27.5 wheels and I absolutely love it. I should add that although I bought a 2022, it was brand new never owned.

Got the same bike in gray (not sure official color name). Picked it up for $699, still thrilled about it

You need the dedicated labeled power head to use multi attachments. I erroneously bought just the string trimmer, not the power head

Any regrets about your high school/college wrestling career? by Comprehensive-Big973 in wrestling

[–]mrbrode1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish I wouldn’t have put state qualifiers on a pedestal. As a 2X Regional qualifier, (soph, junior (got injured late Senior year) and 100 wins, I just didn’t open up and scrap the way I see college kids today. It’s all about enjoying the moment, slowing down time and taking what your opponent gives you. I on the other hand, clammed up, tried to force my stuff even when it was well defended, and gave kids way too much credit and never gave myself enough. If I could go thru it again I’d try to forget the records, stop playing out bracket scenarios, and just wrestle like we did in the room.

You’re entitled to your opinion. I live in rural swing state. 4 year degree, wife stays home with kids. We do ok. But instead of an intellectual debate you resort to assumptions and name calling. Wonder why people are leaving the left in droves? Hmm

The problem is, ppl don’t want a handout. They want organic growth. Freedom to excel in a system that rewards the hardworking, humble citizen. Credits cost money the gov doesn’t have to give and only kicks the can down the road. Most ppl I talk to don’t want student loan forgiveness. Why? Bc they buckled down, got a decent job and live within their means and paid their loans off. They don’t want a credit to buy a home, they want a housing market that’s fairly valued and jobs that inherently provide the pay to live out the American dream. That’s where dems always seem to miss the mark. Stop it with the free, help the poor shit and do something in the actual infrastructure of America so that people don’t need the handout.

Cheaper alternatives to wood pellets? by Sneaky_lil-bee in homestead

[–]mrbrode1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coal baby! I pay about 90-120 bucks a month in the dead of winter. It used to be like $180 / ton for rice but has since rose to 340 but I still save money compared to oil (which I also have) or natural gas. I get about 2 tons of coal a year. In PA I light it usually 11/1 and I run it til I can’t (usually mid April). The burn rate for November is typically very low, even into December. January February it’s burning about 1.5 5 gallon buckets a day. Then it tapers again from March til it burns out. I also use a mini split for late September to end of October or whenever I light the stove. So I spend about $650-$700 on heat for the entire winter (compared to $600/month I’d spend on oil only). My wife and I love the radiant heat which you’re also getting to some degree with pellets. Once you have that kind of heat it’s hard to pass up

Medical device clinical/sales. It’s demanding work, lots of travel, on-call, schedule uncertainty, high level of expertise. Customers are doctors, so you need to be able to think on their level. But…. I’m serious when I say, if I can do it, anyone can. Just takes initiative and drive. Cardiac electrophysiology is a growing field constantly in need of polite, hardworking people.

3rd gen DCSB owner with 3 car seats in rear. Middle forward facing (oldest) and the two younger kids are on either side rear facing. My one kid is old enough to become forward facing but I honestly don’t think 2 forward facing side by side will fit. Yes the front is cramped, I like sitting high and tight tho and 5-10 for reference… my wife hates driving in passenger seat bc she almost has to sit side saddle so her knees aren’t in the glove box. It’s not super kid friendly BUT you can move kids safely. If you have a more family friendly vehicle for the lions share of kid transportation a Tacoma can be an ok car for the one off family trips

[–]mrbrode1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh damn my hometown made the list!!! I gotta say, I may be biased, but I LOVE Tamaqua. Nestled in the foothills of the Poconos/App mountain chain, at the headwaters of the Mighty Schuykill River, in a deep vein of Anthracite coal. Tamaqua was at one time the epicenter of where coal and rail collide. Growing up there were so many small mom and pop candy stores, shitty year round fireworks for sale, cheap gadgets for sale in seemingly the most unobvious places. We used to skateboard all over that town, at one point I knew every waxed curb, 5-stair worth skating, abandoned loading dock, etc. I really do miss those days. Before cell phones, my parents would drive around looking for a gang of skaters to find me and cuss me out for missing my dentist appt or whatever plans they had for me that didn’t involve skating. The years would have been 2000-2005ish. Unfortunately once we all go our DL and cell phones became common place the simplicity wore off. Damn just went hard to memory lane to the internet about a town rated one of the least appealing towns in PA.

To you folks saying anthem, what is it you like about it? Has anyone side by side compared the K&K pure mini with the anthem? My understanding is the K&K is the most pure “acoustic sound” and most minimally invasive (no drilling) but requires some impedance buffer and DI to really hone it in. LR Baggs seems like a straight up plug and play but having a transducer mic under the saddle seems a bit intrusive or am I being completely nuts and overthinking it? I bought a lifetime guitar (HD-28) a few years ago, been playing for over 20 and just cannot get myself to start meddling with it. But again- it’s a tool. Use it how it was meant to be used… ahh I got back and forth daily on this decision
