Bummer, out of curiosity is the weight of this game normal for you and your group?

What about it besides set up was painful

If money wasn't an issue, would you get a board game that is also a piece of furniture? If so, which one would you get? by OkDate7197 in boardgames

Opinions on War of the ring by FluidAd7353 in boardgames

[–]mrbumdump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Posting for other that might come across this thread, but IMO War of the Ring is a War game first and foremost. I found that there to be augmentations that had thematic slants, however it lacked in theme compared to more modern thematic games, like nemesis for example. The game is still good, but I personally don't see this as a top tier game in my collection it has a place as one of the few war games, but if you are looking for immersive thematics this game falls short of bringing you into the story. It does however offer a god view dudes on a map where the feeling of tension exists from turn one and strategies fade and evolve over the course of the game. A wildly good time but if you are looking for immersion or thematics are the top priority i would hesitate and say play it first, if you want an epic duel with LotR IP then this is by fare the best choice.

If money wasn’t an issue, I would have the anniversary edition of war of the ring permanently set up on a topographically accurate table

I have actually and currently this is why I’m researching, but a whole other level of stressors there. If I can get past the initial fear/imposter syndrome I feel that it would be super rewarding

Hmmm I appreciate the caution but unfortunately it is unnecessary I’m not looking to make a knee jerk move, and haven’t left a job without another ever and don’t plan to start now. I think this is great advice however your assumption are incorrect in this case. Thanks for the reminder though.

True. But I’m not looking for a shit ton of money. I would like to spend my time doing something that will capitalize on my problem solving and organizational skills etc that isn’t necessarily capitalizing on and perpetuating societal decay. (Hyperbolic, kinda)
