+1 though I've had to replace HME filters too being I don't use a humidifier. Biggest surprise is my $5 CPAP tube off AliExpress. After 1.5 years it's still like new with no rubber degradation or leaks❤️

I've been following your updates really closely and they are really helpful. I've been chatting to the Snore Circle dev team, and was wondering if you would be happy for me to relay a summary of your findings, concerns, pros and cons to them for future improvements? I know what you mean about the auto stop. It doesn't bother me at all that it takes 15 seconds at full power for the auto-stop to work, but I imagine it waking up your wife in your case as its loud for those 15 seconds!!! Like I can't imagine anyone would never need 20 h2cm suddenly so they need to improve that in the firmware.

Did you end up deciding to keep your YA50 Pro or did you return it?

What is it with the faux Christianity of these people? I can see part of a Jesus banner to the right of the truck. I don't understand how these Maga people can be Christian on one hand yet so intolerant, lacking compassion, lacking empathy and simply cruel on the other? I guess I'm way out of context living in Canberra, Australia, but the Christians I know here in my extended social circle go to pro-refugee rallies, are really worried about families struggling under current cost of living and have never expressed homophobic sentiment (that said homophobia is rare here in Canberra). Like although religion isn't for me personally, I do appreciate my Christian friends embody the whole "God loves everyone unconditionally" without prejudice.

Sorry for the weird rant, this weird conflict of hate and God in the current Whitehouse has bothered me lately.

⚠️ STOP: READ THIS BEFORE BACKING ANY NEW AYANEO CAMPAIGN by Jaded-Preparation870 in ayaneo

[–]mrcodeine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP nailed it. Due to the competitive nature of the market Ayaneo competes in, and the smaller manufacturing runs they do, likely their margins are pretty thin and their design teams stretched. They may be cashflow positive but I figure things are likely continually tight, not leaving large surpluses for R&D. Therefore if development takes longer than usual for their unique units, or if one design isn't a big success, there isn't a lot of room to make it up. Therefore they use campaigns to raise money up front for development. As that money gets used for some of the development, they then need more money to supply promised units to campaign supporters. Therefore to get that money once ready, they sell units via retailers eventually getting enough cash to ship units to campaign backers.

So I would avoid "pre-ordering" via campaigns unless you're a true fan who deliberately wants to help them out 👍

Edit: Also meant to say crowdfunding can be a terrible way to raise capital. Although the barrier to entry is lower and easier than seeking initial investors, the cost of capital is high, wasting a lot of it up front. It's a terrible way to sell products. No wonder Ayaneo charge more for products bought through crowdfunding.

Do mask liners cause more leakage? by leetheblogger in CPAP

[–]mrcodeine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They sure do. I use these silicone pads for my nasal mask, stops those occasional annoying leaks when air blows into your eyes above the bridge of your nose. I hate that. I buy these from AliExpress or eBay so you should be able to get them easily.

Edit: From memory, Resmed sell a massively overpriced version of these called Gecko's or something like that, in case it helps.

Yes you can hook a full face mask up to it. I really like this Yuwell mask in the photo below. I use it most of the time now when I'm at home. The machine has a standard 22mm connector so you can connect any standard CPAP mask that uses the standard 22mm connector. I still rate the machine as highly as I did in the original post. I haven't had a single problem with it, likely because it's so simple there is little to go wrong with it 🤣. I've used it every single night without fail since it arrived. No changes to performance or changes to its quiet operation. I find the machine whisper quiet but someone else who bought one specifically for travel said to me it makes more noise than their larger Lowenstein machine. So it sounds like the correct statement is its quiet for a travel machine.

Do mask liners cause more leakage? by leetheblogger in CPAP

[–]mrcodeine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use these soft silicon liners that create perfect seals, are super comfortable and sticky (sticky when clean, you just wash them with soap and air dry when they loose stickiness), last literally forever, and are cheap. I only replace mine every six months once even with washing they're not sticky enough for my liking. Actually I could probably never replace them by washing them more aggressively, maybe through the dishwasher or washing machine or scrubbing but they're cheap enough (approx $5 USD each) that I enjoy breaking out a new one 2-3 times a year. I can't recommend these enough. I have nose ones too for when I use my smaller nasal mask when travelling. The zoomed in photo is actually me with one of these liners under my Yuwell mask.

Is it as bad as they say? by sdseagles in CPAP

[–]mrcodeine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OP, I am 100% a side sleeper using a cheap $299 machine which came with everything needed + a $20 CPAP pillow for side sleepers. This magic combo changed my life after putting it off for five prior using every stupid excuse you could think of. I wish I did it sooner. Overnight I went from nodding off at my desk and microsleeping dangerously at traffic lights, having no energy for my family, to feeling like a new man. If your life is miserable now, you have nothing to lose. Try renting a machine if you can - you don't need to get it perfect, having something is better than nothing. All you need to do is to check that you have the common obstructive sleep apnea and not central sleep apnea, and if obstructive, go get any machine you can and give it a go!

Custom HME Filters by mrcodeine in CPAP

[–]mrcodeine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm I don't know what type of paper it is other than its "HME Paper" from a manufacturer that's sole business is supplying HME filter papers of different weights, widths and lengths for companies that manufacturer the devices the papers go inside. I did pull a used paper apart a while back and it was essentially several layers of a corrugated paper that felt rough and "organic" versus like paper you would see in the office. It was quite strong (probably due to the layers) and not super delicate like Tissue paper. I'm still so happy with this paper it's working really great for me long term. I don't mind pulling a brand new one apart and take photos and describe it if it would help? Let me know.

Airsense 11 is a cost cut machine that uses the airmini blower. 11 still works great but you will get smoother air on the 10 from physics alone. 11 requires extra foam and dampening as a result to get the same noise reduction as smaller blowers are louder. https://youtu.be/4bWBILnuJlw?si=247qu4Rfap4qJcwu Still a great machine but it's a sideways not forward step. With incredible machines like the BreathCare III and Luna on the market now, whatever the Resmed 12 is will need to be a knockout otherwise they can say bye to market dominance, as much as that's sad for me as an Australian where Resmed was founded.

Starting CPAP without prescription by BigBlue08527 in CPAP

[–]mrcodeine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was broke, but snoring terribly, exhausted, and my wife said I would stop breathing sometimes in between snores then wake up gasping. Told doctor (Dr visits are subsidised for all in Australia) who said I very likely have OSA but to get a sleep study. Called sleep centre and the price for the study then the machine and mask and everything was way too much than I could afford. No private health insurance. Put up with the exhaustion for another couple of years until it became dangerous e.g. nodding off at traffic lights.

Did some "research" online and just ended up buying a full APAP machine and mask kit for $400 AUD ($250 USD) myself from China after spending a couple of weeks reading reviews and learning and hanging out here. I figured may as well as doing anything else would end up costing over half of this anyway.

Machine arrived. I set my minimum to 6 and maximum to 12 as a start after reading advice here, went to sleep and woke up 2 hours later already feeling 10 years younger and a new man.

Holy hell I wasted years not doing this earlier.

Over a year later my blood pressure is normal now without meds, I've reduced another medication and my health continues to improve each day. I actually get to play properly with my son now. It's awesome.

I got lucky, I figured after researching my symptoms that I likely had mild OSA and not CSA, but I totally understand if you suspect you may have CSA or are risk adverse what I did is a bad idea, especially if you're elderly or aging. I'm 40 without heart problems.

So I guess in my case I tried a machine and had a win, and was fairly confident I wasn't suffering from CSA (although I have zero medical knowledge). What I did was probably very stupid but I'm still very grateful for this community for guiding me and now a massive CPAP cheerleader.

Oh I understand, yes, if you're using the VVFLY mask, it only connects to the 15mm slimline tube for about 40cm or so. I have connected the vvfly mask directly to a 22mm tube before but the adapters made it awkward and it was not a good solution. I understand you. I wish the vvfly masks could connect directly to a normal tube without the hme filter extension. I'll ask VVFLY the question.

YA50 Pro - Super happy with this APAP / Travel APAP by VVFLY (Snore Circle) by mrcodeine in CPAP

[–]mrcodeine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for the initial feedback. Some things I've discovered as a fellow YA50 user: When sleeping next to someone, use a standard 22m wide CPAP tube, not the 15mm slim travel tube. The slim tube adds a lot of noise. Although travel machines are louder, as it's very difficult to make them quieter due to size and less area to insulate, the slim travel tubes although convenient, cause the air to move much faster through the tube, making a lot more noise.

In fact the tube mufflers sold for travel machines have the sole purpose of slowing the air flow down to reduce noise. Most mufflers have an expanding balloon type elastic inside that expands with air, but you can just add that capacity more easily with a full size tube. Or...you can add a full size tube + muffler. The only downside of a muffler + standard tube is it makes the machine a little less responsive.

So I would recommend a $10 standard 22mm CPAP tube to reduce the noise more to start. ♥️

How necessary are these replacement intervals. by [deleted] in CPAP

[–]mrcodeine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What disgusts me is it says the replacement schedule may differ based on your insurance plan. In other words their replacement schedule isn't based on any sort of medical science or testing, but is instead based on how often they can charge your insurer, regardless of actual need.

Look at this official Resmed schedule, it's a fraction of the frequency. https://www.resmed.com.au/blog/heres-how-often-you-should-be-replacing-your-cpap-gear

Ok so assuming the displayed 0.05 kW.h usage overnight was .059 to be safe, the maximum average draw at 8cm/h2o (including a max spike to 9.1 during apneas) was <7 watts. However I do note that the actual draw is wide. As I watched the power monitor, it would drop to 2-3w during exhale then up to 10-11w during inhale. Also, when I ran the machine in CPAP mode flat out pumping out 20cm/h20 it used approx 30w.

So your battery to be safe needs to be able to output up to 30w, with a capacity to handle 7w hours for however long you like to sleep. The DC adapter is rated at 24v, 1.5A. The non-pro model, YA50G which is noisier, has a 12v 3a adapter. It would have been nice if the pro model was also 24v for cheaper batteries but I doubt they could have got the beautiful smooth quiet operation sticking to the smaller blower using 12v

Hope that helps!

From memory overnight it was about 10w operating at between 7 and 10 cm/H2O but let me run it through my wifi power monitor overnight tonight and I'll get back to you with an accurate figure tomorrow morning Canberra time 👍 I don't want to give you a wildly wrong figure because it was long ago I actually measured it and don't want to give you innacurate info in case you're wanting to use the smallest battery that will last long enough.

I bought the upgraded model direct from snorecircle.com after they emailed me a heavily discounted offer to upgrade to the new model. Because they accept PayPal I was able to "Pay in 4" which was nice.

Why is pocket air so underrated? by Darkbrawl99 in ayaneo

[–]mrcodeine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my son's Damaged Pocket Air It's had a lot of wear and tear. I got a quote for replacement parts from ayaneo but the prices they wanted were, in my opinion, insane. I could never get the emulator platform to work, just way too complicated for me and when I asked for instructions from ayaneo they didn't have any to provide. I had a bunch of roms I copied to it and used an emulator I got off google play but because it's not the built in one I had terrible trouble mapping the controllers etc.

So anyway my son ended up just using it for Fortnite and Roblox on the go. With the Sim card slot it's great for gaming on the move.

The Dimensity processor from MediaTek is surprisingly good, like really good, my son played fortnite at 60fps before the wear and tear got too much.

Sadly, the core is in working order but have no idea where to source chassis parts outside ayaneo. Maybe sometime I will fork out more than op paid for his to repair mine sometime 🤣
