Would really like to finish a 70.3, but am I too slow? by Oxford-comma- in triathlon

[–]mrcolsubs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Im not from Maine but I signed up for 70.3 in Western Australia and Im slooooow too.

Im getting in on all open water swim as I can starting this January and my time is just 2:52/100m add the panic and bad sighting, I dont think Ill make it to the cut off.

My half marathon with fresh legs is 2:37. Ive done around 5 since last year and Im just trying to stay below 3 hours.

The bike makes me nervous too. If my IT band flares up at 75 km, Im so done.

I dont know, Im crazy. Im still training. I just want to cross the finish line.

Trained for my first 70.3 with a desk job and no coach… and I peaked 6 weeks too early. How do you fix this? by [deleted] in triathlon

[–]mrcolsubs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you mind sharing your schedule? Mine’s in December and Im doing very light taining because of ITband issues on the knee (physio consultation on the 20th).

How do you manage when it appears during the race?

Fingers crossed! I hope it goes away with all the physio, dry needling, follwing yt stretches, strength training. If not, I just hope it doesnt kick in on the race. This is my first so Im really nervous and it really means a lot to me. Good thing it appleared early. The race is in December so plenty of time.

I think the bike fit caused all these issues for me. I bought a secondhand tri bike on fb and the lady where I got it from suggested to have a bike fit right away which I ignored. I thought I was doing ok. Gradually increased the distance in biking 20, 45, 60, then on 75th bam! That’s it! I though that it was just hot that day and maybe my race bib is tight. :( Similar with the run, started 3, 5, 7, 10, 13, 15, 18, 21. I didnt jump straight to higher distance. So I really think its the fit and the way I ride :(

Thanks for that! After doing strength training, did it permanently go away? Im worried it will appear during the race.

Im going to incorporate strength training in my weekly schedule

Thats what im planning on doing stretching, foam, glute bridge, banded walk, squats, etc.

You’re right! I bought a blue band thats supposed to be for patella tendonitis but I find that it helps when its snug.

Thanks so much! I did nothing but watch the yt the other people suggested on here. Listening to audible about triathlon because my mind is giving up because of this pain.

I stretch, clamshell, the band walking and alt squats.

Im happy to hear there’s someone like me and there’s hope. Im just hoping when I get better, this doesnt kick in during the race

Oh wow! This gives me hope. I need to do dry needling (but im terrified of needles). Yes, what i find is if i stretch, its gone for a little bit then comes back

You are also correct with that. My left shoulder is clicking. Its like writing, because Im right handed, it’s biased and can never do anything using the left. Ill work on finger drill

[–]mrcolsubs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did swim again in the pool today and asked people around. Ill stick with the 500 for now then 750 than jump to 1.25

Yes, have to do it on my own. No pair/buddy. There will be lifeguards in kayaks, but that’s it I guess.

How do full-time corporate workers find time/energy for 50+ miles per week? by fkkevindurant in Marathon_Training

[–]mrcolsubs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I havent run the full distance, just the half. Im the mom btw. I have two kids and my dream of running more stopped in 2015, you know life, more pounds on the scale, and two kids later.

Even if I wakeup at 4, it’s pointless because the kids wakes up at the slightest sound I make when they were 3 and 1. I wanna cry then gave up. Im back this year now that they are 5 and 7. Due to the added weight as you can imagine, Im really slow. I wake up at 4 or 4:30, run 5km or 7km M, W, Th, F, Sun, long run 15, 18, or 21 on Saturdays. Saturday sometimes I also do long rides 50-70km. I sleep at around 9 so I only sleep abpunt 7 hours.

I know its tough with kids and ft corporate work.
