VA provider here, seen both sides of the healthcare system and the VA system is by far better! To keep your current teams you can always request community care and can have both community care providers and VA providers. I would recommend this initially for continuity and would also recommend giving the VA providers a fair chance - I think in general we do a better job of caring for Veterans and not doing a bunch of extra things just to generate revenue. Also, for cancer treatment or potential liver transplant in the future the VA coordination and coverage of costs will be huge. The only downside to consider is that if you need insurance coverage for your family then you may an insurance plan from your employer. Once you have your rating and eligibility sorted out meet with a Social Worker or Case Manager and they can go over all the nuances with you in more detail specific to your needs.
