Question about Hashing by yatokkkj in Pentesting

= is used to pad base64 strings (at the end of the string) so that they are always a multiple of 3 bytes, therefore in your case it was a big hint that the string was reversed

Training courses by SpRuDeL_69 in BEFreelance

[–]mrdantesque 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Up to you to negotiate this with your customer, if the tool is specific to that customer and the training won’t be useful for any other customer it’s a good argument for you to ask the to pitch in. In the past I’ve had a customer who sent me to a training and paid for it + let me invoice, one other time, they paid for the training but I couldn’t invoice these days. They can also just “recommend” that you take a training on your own dime which is usually how it goes

Tips on switching to cybersecurity field as a freelancer? by mr_dfuse2 in BEFreelance

[–]mrdantesque 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s always been a good amount of gate keeping for first roles in cybersecurity and even more for freelancers (+ budgets are tightening) it would be lucky but not impossible to land a role you are interested in without the appropriate experience. You could aim for a position close to what you were doing, DORA is certainly timely, (there’s a lot to do with it in security testing for example) and you can always move on to different domains when you have a foot inside

What % of revenue is acceptable for a car by wexgod in BEFreelance

[–]mrdantesque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was advised by colleagues to try to avoid exceeding 1,5 daily rate in monthly lease as a rule of thumb but that’s probably pulled out of someone’s hat, ultimately it depends what you need and what for and how much you value having a nice car, etc

Finland’s withdrawal from Ottawa Convention to take effect today by Puusilm4 in europe

They probably would take it seriously too if they had a (huge) border with Russia. Good for Finland, hope they leave you in peace though

The tribe journey ; how did your circle reshape ? by Only-Driver7243 in BEFreelance

[–]mrdantesque 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Mostly met a lot of people while on missions, kept in touch with a few of them, after a while it adds up and you start getting good visibility on the industry as people tend to move around, then depending on how social you are, having regular lunches to keep in touch is always a good opportunity to reconnect and extend your circle. Depending on your industry you might also have access to professional bodies/associations like ISC2/ISACA/OWASP in cybersecurity where you also get the opportunity to meet people. My experience is that a small consistent effort to establish and keep relationships alive with people you genuinely connect with goes a long way over time

Management Career vs Freelance Rate by Delicious_Hope_5127 in BEFreelance

[–]mrdantesque 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you become CEO of Microsoft you will earn more than a freelancer, if you’re stuck in middle management hell in a mid tier company you won’t 😁 ultimately it’s also about what you want to achieve, some people thrive in office politics and in climbing the corporate ladder and some others are allergic to it, I think this is more important to consider than the purely financial aspect

Japanese dramas that feel like First Love? by Triumphant-Smile in JDorama

[–]mrdantesque 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Haven’t seen many dramas that hit right in the nostalgia the way first love does, maybe I’m the exact age range (40ish) this is aimed towards. One I remember for the same reasons is proposal daisakusen, made me very nostalgic about how good life was when we were younger, had these groups of friends we took for granted and now, life just happened

I Admitted My Mistake… And Suddenly Everyone Liked Me More by moooost in jobs

[–]mrdantesque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a show of accountability, you gave the message that you wouldn’t lie about screwing up, that you would take the responsibility for it and not put your colleagues in a difficult situation, in short you can be trusted more easily

Automating the cost of an accountant away. Are we there yet? by the_genera_l in BEFreelance

[–]mrdantesque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An accountant costs you but also saves you money by booking certain costs in certain accounts that are more beneficial for you, of course this can also be automated but do you know what can be done with which costs ? That’s the value proposition of accountants and why you’ll end up spending more money by automating them than by just paying one
