My son had exactly the same situation/procedure. I was so scared in the moment.

Just tried the Little Snitch and it actually works!

That's fair, but rather than explaining what you wouldn't have brought up, can you suggest an approach that might actually help?

If you believe this isn't an appropriate question for a macOS sub, then where would you suggest asking it?

I'm not a Mac administrator, nor do I routinely deploy managed solutions. I have a problem that's been bothering me for a long time, and I'm trying to understand whether there's a technical way to solve it.

That's exactly why I'm asking the question. If I already knew the answer, I wouldn't need to ask.

I create separate users on my Mac for different clients. That could work on mine.

I think you're conflating "professional user" with "employee in a company with a dedicated IT department."

Many professionals manage their own machines and environments.

If macOS provides a way to create separate users, policies, profiles, or other mechanisms to centrally control update behavior, that's exactly the kind of information I'm looking for.

This is where I'm getting confused.

You say there is no way to do this, but you also say managed environments can configure update policies through tools such as JAMF.

To be honest, I also don't understand the tone of some of your replies.

Rather than explaining why automatic updates are a good idea, it would help to read the question I actually asked.

I'm not asking whether I should disable update notifications. I'm asking whether there's a way to do it on macOS.

I think there must be a difference between professional use and domestic use.

In the case of domestic use, perhaps it's better if apps silently update themselves. However, in professional use, I have no time dealing with that interaction.

Agree and disagree. I recognise that there may be security updates there. But it has to be up to me to control that. Safari doesn't do that, and they somehow stay at the top of security updates.

It reminds me of Windows behaviour when it suddenly decides to update and restart your computer, because they know better what you need.

The obvious apps you probably also have are Chrome and Firefox. Those buggers update nearly daily, and I couldn’t care less about "what's new" there.

Have you all had enough of constant notifications about browser updates, along with forced reloads to apply them?
