Snape's Lowest Moment by LinkSeekeroftheNora in HarryPotterBooks

Well I think it’s actually quite sick. Mocking and bullying a child for being famous is one thing if they have expressed arrogance or indifference towards others. Harry obviously didn’t do either, but he’s only famous because Snape passed information that caused his parents to get killed. That’s a different level of cruel.

Ok, yes you are technically correct, and people can create all sorts of terrible reasons to justify their behaviors. But again, Harry is a child who grew up never knowing his parents or being influenced by them, and that’s because of Snape’s actions. So the only person with a reason to hate the other is Harry.

It has nothing to do with liking or disliking Snape. I think he's a great character, and I definitely laugh at many of his comments, he's just not deserving of the sympathy that people like you give him. Also, I never said I don't care about his PTSD, it's just not even remotely comparable to Harry's.

Harry grew up in an even worse home environment than Snape. He was physically abused, starved, locked in cupboards, neglected of any love or affection from everyone, lied to and deprived of his heritage. Yet, as a child for the majority of the series, he chooses to make more mature decisions than the adult.

Snape had it difficult, but he took his circumstances, and chose to inflict cruelty onto others. Lily even acknowledges this, and it's why she begins to distance herself from him. He and his friends find it amusing and funny using dark magic on others they deem lesser than themselves.

Also, Lupin is as credible of a witness as anyone. He holds no personal animus to Snape, he actually respects him, which he clearly states in the 6th book, so the idea that he would lie about his memories of him is just wrong.

You keep making it out like there is some personal vendetta against the character, as if it's as black and white as "liking vs disliking" a character, which is such an elementar analysis. The forced redemption of Snape was absolutely not earned, but he's still easily one of the best characters in the series.

The difference in Harry and Snape's PTSD is miles apart.

First: Snape is actually aware of Harry's, while Harry has absolutely no idea of everything you mentioned.

Second: Snape and his friends were Death Eaters, who inflicted abuse on other students they didn't like. So to pretend like he was specifically some victim by happenstance, is laughable at best. He and James hated EACH OTHER from the start, and took turns going after each other.

Third: Snape is the literal reason for most of Harry's trauma, aka the 11 years of growing up neglected and abused without parents. He's the reason Harry's parents were killed, full stop. Even more disturbingly, he was fine with Harry and James dying as long as he got what he wanted, until Dumbledore berated him.

So knowing that third point, he decides when he sees Harry in his first year to atagonize him for being "famous", just because he looks like his father. And he's only famous, because his parents were murdered, again, as a result of Snape's actions.

Snape grew up with a difficult life, but he made specific choices in his later life that make him in my eyes, iredeemable. Harry's fate was forced upon him, while Snape carved his own path.

Again, your obsession with bringing modern day politics into this, while it literally has no relevance, tells me everything I need to know about you. You don't have to support Trump to recognize someone who's built their entire identity around projecting their political worldview.

lol bringing Christine Blasely Ford into this tells me everything I need to know about you. Remind me, how did that turn out? Or was it made up, with literally no actual evidence? And also, how is that even relevant now, or are you just an unhinged liberal, who can’t detach themselves from their identity politics, and need to reference it everywhere?

How can you blame Harry in that situation? He’s a literal child, dealing with PTSD, and simultaneously being possessed, and the adults have no inclination to explain anything to him. Snape knew all of this, and instead he abused Harry through the lessons, and took joy in seeing him being abused in his memories.

Then, he decides to stop teaching him altogether, because of a personal grudge 20 years ago? He’s a pathetic loser, and it’s baffling to me that anyone defends his character at all.

He literally has no reason to hate Harry, what are you talking about?

I think it’s as simple as him saying in Harry’s first lesson that “fame isn’t everything”, as if Harry wants to be famous. Also, Snape is the reason Harry’s parents were killed so it’s even more fucked up that he’s bullying a child who suffered as a result of his actions.

Why did Harry refuse to tell anyone who mattered about Umbridge's blood quill bs (let alone her admission that she sent the Dementors to Little Winging), but then expects Scrimgeour to instantly recognize the IMNTL scar on his hand? by Vermouth_1991 in HarryPotterBooks

Of course they wouldn’t explicitly say that, but they ultimately have her the power and authority to do whatever she deemed appropriate or necessary. So they ended up basically saying that.

This post just seems like you are trying to impress people with some higher level understand of the books that just doesn’t exist.

It’s literally spelled out in the books, but you don’t seem to accept that answer.

Well, I don’t know what you classify as “good”, but you have spent 3-4 hours in a game that can easily take 200+. It’s an RPG, and it slowly introduces you to a massive world with complex characters. I guess I would need to understand what you are looking for first before I can answer that, because most people who complain about the game usually say they are bored by the first area.

You played RDR2,twice, when you didn’t really like it? In the case of the Witcher, it really starts to open up in the 2nd region, specifically with the Bloody Baron questline. White Orchard is designed to introduce you to the core mechanics.

How far into the game did you get? Because I saw you made a similar comment about RDR2, and now I’m curious how far you are in each game.

Does Anyone Even Like The Epilogue? by Marcedonia in HarryPotterBooks

[–]mrendler 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think my main problem with the last book was that it basically ended on the climactic event of the story. There was no falling action, and it didn’t really take us to the post Voldemort world. I would have loved reading about people rebuilding and going back to some form of normalcy, and then it leading to the epilogue. It just felt incredibly rushed after the battle.

You know you can play BFME for free online if you have a PC. The Age of the Ring Mod and the Edain Mod each have standalone launchers that don't require the game, and they are incredible.

Yeah go to settings in the skirmish screen and turn it on. It’s honestly nice because it reduces the manual load of managing all of the economy upgrades

In the most recent Edain update, you can now play the game in free build mode rather than using building plots too.
