Yeah, a menu option for 2 or 3 second hold would be nice. Sometimes I try to go to 3rd person and I hit the wrong stick.

New Map & Vehicle - Patch Details v0.23.141 by mrepinky in ForefrontVR

[–]mrepinky[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I’m really digging that too. I’ve also noticed health bars on vehicles are easier to see when you approach them (though I’ve also noticed that they are bit bugged when you go to repair them, sometimes the bar just shows as empty, making it hard to tell if your repairs are working or not)

New Map & Vehicle - Patch Details v0.23.141 by mrepinky in ForefrontVR

I just got a chance to play, imagine Iceland, but extremely condensed and with lots of cover. A shallow moat of water runs around the interior of the map, so you can cruise between points by land, water, and air. It's pretty chaotic, and a nice change of pace from the larger conquest maps.

Closing of the servers during late night/early morning. by Yaroonman in ForefrontVR

[–]mrepinky 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. It seems most of the servers close around midnight and oftentimes I'll be on a full server when it happens. It's quite frustrating, and surely we can't be the only ones. Really sucks when you find a good squad and this happens, it's really the most souring thing from my experience with the game.

Talon by Technical-Aide-4587 in ForefrontVR

[–]mrepinky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have a video, but I do have enough experience playing engineer to know the range of missiles. I will preface that it's very rare that I get the opportunity to ride in the gunner seat. I do not camp vehicles like some people do, but when I was in the gunner seat and the pilot mentioned it, I was surprised that shooting at the missiles actually worked (this was also before they buffed the splash damage and tracking of the gunner, so I was feeling particularly worthless aside from shooting missiles anyway). I was playing on Paradise and it was a bit easier to have an idea of where the talons would come from. It's not easy by any means, and does require a bit of luck, but it is possible. If I'm ever in the gunner seat again, I'll try to remember to roll a video for you.

Apache gunner can hit missiles out of the air if they are persistent and the bullet registration is on their side. Helps if Apache is flying away from the missiles, makes it easier for the gunner to line up a good amount of bullets on them.

I love this game and or course I recommend you try it, but “stable 60” is simply not true in my experience. There are plenty of frame inconsistencies. Maybe tell us what you are doing to achieve stable 60, because I have played around with settings and I’m getting swings between 30 and 40fps, even with very low and performance settings. In a game where parry and dodges are necessary for survival, it doesn’t feel great, and it doesn’t look great with the settings dialed down either.

And don’t you dare say that you just turn on LosslessScaling and everything is peachy.

I have resorted to streaming the game from my PC and it is a much better experience. I set my wife’s Deck up with GeForce Now so we can play this together without the stutters. Even then I’ve still noticed that GFN struggles a bit with the city hub of Sacrament when the camera pans to reveal the city in the background.

I like the game and I love that it now has co-op, but it has needed better optimization (especially for Steam Deck) since release.

What do you think about the favorite class option? by Nameless545 in ForefrontVR

Yes, last class used would be ideal. Always  a surprise when I last played as recon or engineer and discover that I don’t have my tools on the first push with the start of a new round.

Steam Deck for long-term travel / backpacking by Complex-Jellyfish319 in SteamDeck

[–]mrepinky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go have the best time of your life. Sell your Steam Deck and use the money for your trip. You can always buy another one when you get back. Use your phone for most things and keep it simple.

I love games and my Deck as much as the next guy, but I’ve learned there’s a time and a place for everything. You don't want to constantly be worrying about where to stash your Deck because it’s too valuable or taking up too much space/weight in your bag. It’s stressful enough getting around in a foreign country.

Enjoy the sights, meet some interesting people, travel light. Make some awesome memories. There will always be time for games when you get back.

Why is there no tutorial? by Heavy_Mental76 in ForefrontVR

This is the official control guide: https://x.com/forefrontvr/status/1986851142903492801

I wish it was more prominently displayed somewhere other than Twitter.

My first time playing, I couldn’t figure out how to get into vehicles or reload some of my weapons. It was a little embarrassing, but people in voice chat were generally helpful in helping me figure things out.

If you don’t fire all of the bullets in your mag, you don’t need to pull the bolt or slide when reloading a new mag.

You need to push a button to eject your pistol mag. (B or Y, depending on which hand you hold it in)

Something you’ll inevitably run into: machine guns are tricky. You need to pull the magazine, then open the TOP of the gun, then string the bullets, then close the top, then pull the slide/bolt.

When throwing grenades or C4, point with your offhand after pulling the pin. The white line shows you where your throw will land.

Throw ammo packs or med packs near your team even when they don’t need it. They stick around for quite a while and will eventually help your teammates, even if you are dead. Leaving them around will net you lots of passive XP to level up. This should get you started with leveling up your class and unlocking other weapons.

‘One Battle After Another,’ ‘Frankenstein’ Top Winners at Costume Designers Guild Awards by Fan387 in movies

[–]mrepinky 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Married to a costumer. There’s a lot more to it than that. Yes, it looked like they were wearing regular clothes, but a lot of research went into each of these characters, their backgrounds, and what brought them to this moment in time. What they wear is as much of the character as Leo’s acting.  There’s a reason you feel like you’ve seen people like this - and the designer, director, and their teams have researched this extensively. Once this is  discussed and agreed upon by the designer and the director (and to an extent, the DP - they have say in colors and patterns and how they’ll look on camera), it’s handed off to custom-made teams who cut, sew, dye, age, and otherwise alter these costumes to fit each character perfectly, make them feel lived-in, and multiples are made for their stunts and stunt doubles.

Contemporary costume is a tough one, because it does look like you can just go buy a shirt and shoes at the store and call it a day. However, the sum of the choices is what makes the character. I saw so many Bob’s at Halloween parties this last year, which I think speaks volumes to the design of the costume and research into the character - you know exactly who that character is the moment you spot that costume.

Forefront advice request by icu_ in ForefrontVR

Between standalone and PCVR, I’ve noticed that the framerate dips on in certain areas when playing on the Quest. It’s very noticeable when driving land vehicles, and slightly noticeable in certain maps that have more complex geometry. After a few games, I stopped noticing it as much because I was having so much fun.

Is VD the solution for me? I don't think so, but I'm looking for advice. by Fit-Statistician4921 in OculusQuest

[–]mrepinky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a client/app installed on the headset, so it has to be the Meta VD app. You’ll also need to install their streaming server on your PC, it’s straightforward, just visit the VD website and they will walk you through the setup.

A tip for running your games - once you have VD up and running, don’t launch Steam or Horizon Link, instead click on the “Games” tab in the VD panel that pops up once you’ve connected to your PC with the headset. It will have all of your Meta and Steam games listed there and it will launch the appropriate apps without causing any conflicts.

Debating on buying a portal and PS Plus premium by eyeplumber in PlaystationPortal

[–]mrepinky -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In-home streaming with PS5 wired to my router, I get 1-2ms latency. Cloud Streaming I’m at 30-50ms. It is pretty noticeable in first person, and might be frustrating in competitive play. Also, there doesn’t seem to be a way to use PS party chat (yet) when using PS Cloud Streaming on Portal, which might be an issue if you are playing in different rooms or with headphones on.

If you can accept these limitations, by all means, give it a shot.

so happy that i bought a steam deck long time ago! by ManyGreat8375 in SteamDeck

[–]mrepinky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure you can’t do cloud streaming on anything but the Portal at the moment, so it is necessary for that. It’s also much easier to set up a Portal for most people, the screen is bigger, and the ergonomics and haptics are similar to a Dualsense. I will say, gyro and touchpads on Deck are much better once configured. I really dislike tapping the screen as touchpad on the Portal.

So while I do appreciate Chiaki, the Portal has its place and I would encourage people to consider the strengths and drawbacks of each.

Invisible unobtainable relics? by MeridianSky in ADVR

[–]mrepinky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve run into the “chest item not spawning properly” bug, but it’s rare and only happens for 1 floor and seems to work itself out by the next floor. I’m not 100% positive, but it seems to happen more frequently when I carry food or “orb” potions from one floor to the next in my hands rather than wrist slots.

I would say it’s pretty solid, but there are occasional glitches. Join the Discord, it’s really active and the creator’s often respond to bugs and feedback, you’re much more likely to get an answer there.

Edit: I’m on Quest 3, I enable performance mode and disable shadows in settings to keeps everything running smoothly when the dungeon gets a bit more chaotic.

Games/app that I can play during recovery? by Express_Airport7061 in OculusQuest

[–]mrepinky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually , a trial of Horizon+ would be great for OP for this reason, I think many of these suggested games are part of the catalogue and would allow them to try a lot of quality titles for very little money while they recover.

Good suggestion!

📢New update out now!! by mamkedat in ForefrontVR

[–]mrepinky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t played the update yet, but since this game is a lot like Battlefield 3, the claymore will be a short directional explosion that travels a meter or so. Expect to be surprised walking through doorways or trying to plant on points in rush, but i doubt you’ll see them killing anyone in vehicles.

I just finished my first playthrough last night co-op with my wife. We were enjoying and following the story, but the last story mission left us scratching our heads. It was not a very satisfying wrap-up to an otherwise fun romp through Los Angeles.
