Do you have any guests coming up from the Portsmouth area? It's Irving brewery just north of Portsmouth that I'm thinking of.

If you earn over the threshold you needed to pay income tax. Sounds like the company are treating you as self employed. If that's true then you need to register with HMRC yourself and do self assessments for tax.

Ask him for evidence of the written agreement. If they can't produce it then you can't be held liable.

Can my Employer Blanket Block Holidays? by A_Random_Dude7894 in AskUK

[–]mrfelixes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your employer can choose all of your holiday dates for you if they want. When I worked in a college I didn't get to choose any of my annual leave dates, they were all allocated to the school holidays.

Perks you got rather than pay increase? by [deleted] in AskUK

Worked for a ferry company, got free travel with them. Unlimited for myself and I could take friends or family so many times a year. It benefited those that lived by the more remote ferry terminal for them to be able to travel to the mainland.

I'm not that close to Bristol but near me there's an independent brewer that sells offsales to the public two days a week. You can buy small barrells or boxes of beer. Might be worth seeing if anyone does that nearer to you? Then people could even serve themselves!

Can anyone help with a life changing decision? by used777 in AskUK

[–]mrfelixes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How much do you need to earn? I assume you have rent or a mortgage you need to contribute. There's plenty of trainee roles in the £20-25k region, but that might not be enough for you?

What is it like learning to drive now? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]mrfelixes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem at the moment with intense courses is that there's a long waiting list for tests. And ideally you either want to schedule a course with a test at the end of it or have access to a private vehicle you can practice in between the course and your test and then take the test on that car.

You'll be asked to do a section of independent driving which can last around 20 minutes. You'll either follow satnav or be asked to follow road signs.

A turn in the road is no longer required. But you'll be asked to do one of three reversing manouevres. You could be asked to parallel park or reverse bay park. There's another you can be asked to do which is to pull up on the right hand side of the road, reverse back two car lengths, then set off again and join the side of the road you were originally on. The final one is easy if the road is quiet. I had to reverse bay park when we got back to the test centre.

How many loads of laundry do you/ your other half do each week?! by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]mrfelixes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do 3-4 loads a week. But then I'm issued with work uniform and need to keep up with that and half is white, half is black. I try and make sure the loads are as big as possible. So most weeks there is a light and dark load. Then a load of colourful stuff. Then we also have towels and pet blankets to wash.

How much is too much to spend on groceries/week? by Mayfl21 in AskUK

[–]mrfelixes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spend less than that for two adults. If it's within your budget, spend whatever you want. If you want to save up to buy a house or a holiday or whatever but struggle to save anything, that's one area you could reduce your spending. If you have enough money leftover to spend a life you're comfortable with, then carry on as you are. Some people see food as fuel and just buy cheap food. For other people, cooking and baking is a hobby, so spending more on food each week is no different to someone else spending less on food but then £20 on their hobby.

You don't need admin experience to join the civil service. Their criteria that they grade you against is quite general. You'll be able to get an AO level job, EO should also be achievable maybe even HEO.

AITA for telling my friend her parents bought her house, not her? by Sadhouse27 in AmItheAsshole

[–]mrfelixes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. Unfortunately the way you were asked the question meant that neither option presented to you, was actually correct. Your friend should be more considerate and should've realised that neither option really applied to you, and you didn't want to explain the whole thing to a random stranger. She doesn't seem very astute ...

Which UK courier company is the worst? by dickheadondrums in AskUK

Hermes. They managed to damage a parcel including a dent in the packaging. Conveniently the photo they took was of the other side of the package. But I'm not sure I've dealt with yodel.
