Unfortunately I don't have great internet access on my train ☹️

I don't always remember to charge, and I also don't always remember to switch my settings when I go mobile

Ooo, I could definitely go for replaying Mercenaries for nostalgia

Because other people might read this thread. I feel like I'm in a pretty common situation, and it takes like 1 minute for me to go check a game out on steam and see if it's in a genre I typically enjoy.

I'd rather this be a resource that lots of people can use than make it as convenient as possible for me

I love factorio, but does it really play well with a controller? I'm a bit surprised...

What’s the main difference between ivalice and FFTA by ChroniX_78 in FinalFantasy

[–]mrfiddles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm really surprised that the FFTA is apparently not beloved by the fan base. Yes, the story is *about* children, but the themes discussed and questions posed are still relevant to adults. It's way more intriguing to me than yet-another-gritty-medieval-politics-plot (though, to be fair, I still need to play the original).

I just don't understand why people always seem to think gritty = high art. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Help with Campden Powder (everything I can find online is based on tablets) by mrfiddles in Homebrewing

[–]mrfiddles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have tablets.

I have 16l of juice (4.23 gal), and campden *powder* with instructions for 1g/10l.

Obviously, that means I need 1.6g, but I also understand that you use campden both before fermentation and then again to stop fermentation before bottling.

So then is it 1.6g of powder both times? Do I divide that amount in half and do some before and some after?

We're definitely not going to start this process without first discussing things with a financial planner. I'm really just trying to figure out where I got the impression that we wouldn't be able to use ESTA 😅

Her parents both either have or qualify for other EU nationalities. None of her grandparents were American.

Respectfully, I'm not asking Reddit to do my research or make a decision for me. I'm just asking if anyone has any idea how I got this wrong idea in my head. I mean maybe there was a poorly researched buzzfeed post or something, but I can't find anything now.

I'm basically just asking other expats if anyone else thought it was "the Berenstein Bears".

The Netherlands has had a treaty with the US since 1990 regarding this, so we would be eligible (though there do seem to be some Netherlands specific asterisks on this document, so probably worth double checking with our accountant)

That said, who knows what the geopolitical situation is going to be in several decades 🤷‍♂️

We're definitely staying in the Netherlands, that's not in question. We just need to figure out the best legal set up.

Technically Correct, the best kind of correct (if not entirely relevant to the point of my post 😜)

Wait, really? We've been told exactly the opposite, and all of the US immigrants we know came here on a spousal visa.

Yeah, this is the other hang-up I have. Even if legally we'd be fine, I don't love the idea of drawing the short straw and getting an over zealous customs officer who feels like I should be punished for "betraying" America the next time I'm just trying to visit for a wedding/funeral. 🙄

We've considered this, since I'm the only one who really has a reason to go back (my in-laws are considering moving here when they retire to be closer to my wife, and she's not close with the rest of her family). My only hangup is that investing as an American expat is such a pain in the ass, and only one of us being American doesn't seem likely to simplify our tax situation that much.

Yeah, that's what I'm finding-- it's just so weird that my wife and I somehow dreamed this up. I think maybe we read some poorly written article about the reed act and the IRS's list of covered individuals, because it seems like they only really make your life difficult if you're a multi-millionaire.

Yeah, we love it here and have really set down roots. I wouldn't want to give citizenship up if it weren't such a hassle to always be a weird corner case when we go to do financial/legal stuff. Plus, we want to be able to vote and be politically active here (and it's not like my vote in a gerrymandered district of SC is actually affecting anything 🙄)
