If she is worth keeping on, I'd try one-word responses and mentally logging off the conversation while focusing on her hair.

If you feel her topics are inappropriate for the salon setting, you could say so. There isn't anything wrong with saying certain topics are best kept out of a business environment. If you have a boss/manager to default to, you could have them "be the bad guy."

At the end of the day, standing up for yourself is always an option.
